Gronkowski: A fever knocked him out of training in the weeks leading up to the Kentucky Derby, so he instead bids for the 12-furlong Belmont Stakes without having raced since March 30. Not only does the Kentucky-bred, British-raced traveler have to answer the layoff question, but he must do so racing a full half-mile farther than he’s ever tried and while racing on dirt for the first time. Champion US trainer Chad Brown has taken over the controls in the past month from Jeremy Noseda and will be represented here instead of pressing forward with Derby runner-up and Preakness fourth-place finisher Good Magic. Gronkowski has won four straight, but it’s extremely hard to envision another completion.
