Tonight, Mohawk Park will be the setting for Grand Circuit action for two-year-old pacing colts, geldings and fillies. In Race 3 and Race 4 the ladies will battle in two divisions of the Champlain Stakes. In races two, eight and nine the boys will compete in three divisions.
Last night at Mohawk drivers Sylvain Filion and Jody Jamieson led the pilots with two trips to the winner's circle. The victories for conditioners on the 11-race card were spread out amongst 11 trainers.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
3-Sunshines Finest-Broke maiden impressively after a month off, tougher test but should be up close, can roll late.
7-Lyons Night Hawk-Raced last 1/2 in 54.1 in Wbsb debut, another who will benefit from a hot pace.
5-Bronx Seelster-ML chalk has had a great year, winner of >$250K but will swing against at a short price.
1-Key West-Program chalk rates an edge will the rail, Alagna trainee will be tough with best effort.
7-Quebec Blue Chip-Winner of 4 straight and over $200K, looks like a major player.
8-Kylie Seelster-Thinking D. McNair will blast out and may drop in behind 1/7 and stay close throughout.
6-Tall Drink Hanover-2-1 ML chalk is on a nice roll, can see win streak extend to 4.
3-Prescient Beauty-Broke poorly in last and came on for 3rd, McNair is back in the bike and that should help.
2-Ideation Hanover-Finally gets a good post draw on this oval, best to respect.
5-Captain Ahab-5 for 5 in his brief career and has made it look easy, this is the one to beat tonight.
1-Captain Crunch-Is 3-3 this season and appears to be the main threat but will need to be dialed on high.
4-Hervey Hanover-Steps up after 2 wins and Roy could keep in striking range to hit bottom of the ticket.
1-Stag Party-Coleman colt looks like a standout, 4/5 in the ML and appears to be a cut above the rest.
7-Shipshape-This colt tries hard and will need some live cover but if so can chase #1 home.
6-Cruise Captain-Back to a larger oval and has the speed to be in the mix.
