The Stronach 5 was not offered last week due to Oct. 2 cancellation of racing at Golden Gate Fields. The wager paid $5,248.90 2 weeks ago to 26 winning tickets with no winner over 6-1 odds. The Oct. 9 Stronach 5 will be comprised of the following races (beginning at 3:58 pm Eastern):

--Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., who has won the past 2 Gulfstream Park West autumn meets, got off an expected fast start opening weekend at 4: 2-1-1.
--Trainer Alfredo Velazquez had a win and a runner-up from just 2 starters in claiming dirt sprints.
--Jockey Edgard Zayas went 14: 4-3-2 to lead the riders, posting 29% wins and 50% in the exacta. Winners at $5, $9, $9 and $17 netted a $1.46 ROI for every $1 bet.
--Jockey Hector Berrios has carried over his impressive run with a 7: 3-1-0 start to the meet. He did it with $7, $12 and $42 winners as the circuit’s Captain Longshot the past several months.
