A pair of double digit-sized fields and an eight-horse turf allowance make this week's Pimlico Late Pick 4 an inviting 50-cent wager. Here's some angles and a suggested ticket to consider:
PIMLICO // RACE 5 (2:42PM ET) // MAIDEN CLAIMING // 1 1/8 MILES TURF)
Five entrants in this maiden claimer finished in the money going a route of ground within their last two starts. What's more, they did it at various venues -- Pimlico, Laurel Park, Penn National and Tampa Bay Downs -- making the opening leg an 'ALL' play.
PIMLICO // RACE 6 (3:13PM ET) // CLAIMING // 6 FURLONGS (DIRT)
SAM AND SY benefitted from a hot pace when he won two starts back, but he can strike again the $5,000 level. In his last start for $10,000, he broke outward and chased 3-to-5 Belmont shipper Doctor K (9/3-2-0, $81,900). SEIZE THE DAY improved in his first main-track start for his new barn, stalking the favorites while 3- and 4-wide and getting up late to finish second. He also showed a passing gear, which wasn't part of his arsenal when in peak form as a 3-year-old last fall.
PIMLICO // RACE 7 (3:48PM ET) // OPTIONAL CLAIMING // 1 MILE (TURF)
JUDI BLUE EYES (26/7-7-3, $228,489) is building quite a resume at age 5. She rallied into a fast pace to repeat on the Pimlico lawn in May and, in doing so, held off fast charging OUT OF SORTS, who came back to win a grassy allowance and the $75,000 Christiana Stakes at Delaware Park. She is our solo play in the Late Pick 4.
PIMLICO // RACE 8 (4:21PM ET) // MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT // 6 FURLONGS (DIRT)
PEDERSON'S COURAGE was dead game while widest in his debut, then hooked a promising winner as the beaten favorite next out. He can handle the rise from the maiden claiming ranks. EVERETT'S SONG, bet down to 8-to-5 in his debut at Delaware Park, was in a bit tight between rivals early and under a hard drive on the turn. But he re-emerged with a strong rail rally in the stretch, though unable to reel in the 7-1 winner.
