Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Late Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, September 20

by Al Cimaglia

September 20, 2021

This evening Northfield Park has a 15-race card ready to roll with the $1.00 Late Pick 4 starting in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11

2-Man He Can Skoot (2-1)-Cashed a 3rd place check in its 1st local start and seemed to flatten out in what was a 152.4 mile. This will be the 2nd start in the Looney barn and comes back in 7-days instead of over 2 weeks. Should be a threat with a smooth trip.
4-Keystone Memphis (9-1)-This 10-year-old cashes checks but is only 1-58 over the past 2 years. The last 2 starts have been better and gets post relief. Davis picked the one above but just in case that 12-year-old isn't dialed on high this gelding should be in the mix at the wire.

Race 12

1-Stonecold Bluechip (5-1)-Three-year-old came off the bench with 2 straight wins and now bumps up in class. Will respect chances for the upturn to continue with this post draw.
2-Pappy's Legacy (6-1)-The last 2 with Davis Jr. have been good and comes off a sharp win from the 2nd tier. Steps-up but so do a few others and will use at what should be a solid price.
5-Spatacus Bluechip (2-1)-This is a race without a standout and not loving the short price. Merriman steers, drew well but this 3-year-old is only 2 for 32 lifetime. Comes off a 151.4 mile so won't dismiss but will hope for others to provide more value.
6-Pike Rock (5-1)-Has had 3 sharp efforts in a row and should be able to be forwardly placed for Myers. Pet Rock 3-year-old has hit the board in 7 of 9 at NFLD with 2 pictures. Has learned some lessons on the fair circuit and could be ready for a trip to the winner's circle tonight.

Race 13

2-The Big Picture (7/2)-Has been in good form over the last 3 races and now makes the 1st start for the Farmer barn. Was bet down in last but had an equipment break. Will look for a clean trip and a big try this evening.
3-Victor Hic (2-1)-Tripped out to win from the rail in last. This is another Davis Jr.-Looney combo, and the program chalk looks like a major player.
4-Routhland (5/2)-Makes the 3rd start for the Oliverio barn and is often in the mix but seldom cashes the top check. Merriman should put this Captaintreacherous 3-year-old in play and could look to make one big move down the lane.

Race 14

6-Pet My Rock (6-1)-Stopped using Lasix about 3 weeks ago and this race isn't loaded with good form. Did close nicely for a change last week, off a rough trip. Slow starter will be steered by Davis Jr., and he has an aggressive style of driving. Looking for an alert start and for this 4-year-old to be in striking range turning for the wire at a good price.
