This week's Stronach 5 lines up with four races of 10 or more entrants and another with nine, making for a potential lucrative payout. Be prepared for the exciting wager, as the races span three tracks in 75 minutes. Here's an early look at the sequence with a suggested play:
LEG A // GULFSTREAM // RACE 5 (4:00PM ET) // CLAIMING // 1 MILE (TURF)
TEN PIN ALLY won 3 of her last 8 starts on the main track by a combined 14-1/2 lengths. CACTUS KITTEN awakened in her second start on the main track and offers value again. MIRANDA SOFIA draws into the race as a main-track-only entrant off an easy victory on an 'off' track victory. GINGERONMYMIND took money and didn't factor last out but is worth a longshot stab on the ticket. I'll use these four runners and reduce the cost of the original 'ALL' punch when it was scheduled for the grass.
LEG B // LAUREL // RACE 8 (4:19PM ET) // ALLOWANCE // 7 FURLONGS (DIRT)
MOQUIST worked to make the lead from the outside post at half-mile Timonium, shrugged off a 5-to-2 pursuer and kept a 2-1 closer at bay in a solid first-out victory. FOOL YOURSELF won route races on the turf, main track and bullring to remain perfect for this barn and is perfectly spotted to do it again. MARVELLA NASTY won off a longer freshening than this in May and rallied for third in a pair of Maryland-bred allowance sprints in her two main-track starts since then.
LEG C // LAUREL // RACE 9 (4:49PM ET) // MAIDEN CLAIMING // 6 FURLONGS (DIRT)
SHADY MUNNI shook a 3-way duel on the turn but tired against a field of all first-time starters and on a day when closers dominated at Monmouth. FREE SQUARE shows a good September work tab for his debut and his dam was a speedy, Grade 2-placed sprinter.
LEG D // GULFSTREAM // RACE 7 (5:04PM ET) // MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT // 7 1/2 FURLONGS (TURF)
DRY HUMOR debuts for trainer-jockey duo that is 11-for-24 at the current meet with a +$1.53 ROI. She is by Practical Joke, whose first crop of 2-year-olds won MSW races at tracks from coast to coast. BULLET ON TAP is a late add-on to the ticket with proven main-track form. She showed speed and held for minor awards in two well-bet starts.
LEG E // GOLDEN GATE // RACE 2 (5:14PM ET) // CLAIMING // 6 FURLONGS (ALL WEATHER)
RUN LIKE KONA starts for a new barn off a three-month layoff, but if she duplicates her sprint races at Santa Anita and Delmar on today's synthetic surface, she figures tough at decent odds. CONCISE ADVICE rallied for minor awards in four consecutive starts against better, albeit three as the race favorite.
