Yonkers Raceway has a 12-race card scheduled with the feature coming in Race 10, an Open Handicap pace with a $48,000 purse. The 0.50 Pick 5 sequence begins in Race 5, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 5
2-Joesstar Of Mia A (5/2)-Dropped to this level in last and left to get on the point but faded to finish a close 4th. This post draw should help the cause and the Dowse barn is posting 32% winners over the last 30 days.
4-Lou's Sweetrevenge (5-1)-Needs a trip to down this kind and Siegelman should be able to find live cover. The pace should be lively, and this race could set-up for a closer.
Race 6
2-Mickey Gee N (5/2)-Comes off an efficient win as an odds-on chalk. Steps-up but so does most of this field. Mickey has beaten this kind in the past and should be forwardly placed throughout.
5-Somebaddude (6-1)-Looking for a price shot, and this 6-year-old has been stuck with outside posts in the last 2. Joe B should be more aggressive here and best to not overlook.
6-Rockapelo (4-1)-Returns from Freehold after not getting the job done from post 8. Brennan may look to get on the engine and that could work if lands there without getting stretched out.
Race 7
1-Soho Lennon A (7/2)-Will look for a rebound off the last dull start. This post draw should put the veteran in play and has beaten this kind before.
4-Whitecookie (6/5)-Stomped on these in last with an easy score in the slop. Loses Gingras but Brennan, the usual driver is back in the bike. Should be a major player and with a good trip it could be picture time again.
Race 8
2-Islandspecialmajor (9/2)-Raced well in the slop to finish a close 2nd leaving from post 7. Does move up but gets necessary post relief and has a fair shot to down this crew.
3-Pretty Handsome (7/2)-This will be 2nd start for the Bako barn. The last start was on 11-30, raced wide and was hung into a quick half. Looking for a smoother journey and this beaten favorite could make amends.
Race 9
5-Big Sir (9/2)-Taking 2 who raced against one another last week on a sloppy track. Stratton gets a post edge and may turn the tables on a dry track. Beaten 1/2 chalk should be closer to the top this time and did pace the back half in 56.3 last time.
7-Forever Fav (7-1)-Gingras put the pedal down, got the top and the slop didn't matter. Drew off by over 6 lengths for the 2nd straight picture in an impressive mile. May not get on the engine but should be driven aggressively and best to respect chances for a 3-peat.
