Jerry Shottenkirk: Gulfstream Late Pick 4 Ticket | Sunday, December 19, 2021

Gulfstream Park’s Late Pick 4 Sunday brings out a different strategy this week, featuring a blend of the ALL button along with a single.

The first two races in the sequence (races 7-10) are free-for-all engagements that would are strong challenges when it comes to picking out just one for two in each.

The single is in the 10th race, as Todd Pletcher trainee Gooch Go Bragh takes on maidens going a mile and 70 yards over the all-weather surface. He was fourth in the G3 With Anticipation on turf at Saratoga, and his talents likely will transfer to this surface in good order. He opened his career with a runner-up finish, also at Saratoga.

The feature race of the day comes in the ninth, where Bemma’s Boy takes on allowance optional claiming company. The 6-year-old Into Mischief gelding makes his first start since his victory in the G2 Pan American Stakes over this course in 2020. Perhaps the biggest challenge for the Mike Maker trainee is the distance as he’s more accustomed to routes. He’s gone 1.5 miles in three of his last four races and will be asked to tune up his late run earlier as he’s faced with a mile.

The suggested ticket amounts to $56, and here’s a look at the cast:

7th Race (3:25 p.m. ET, claiming)

HANNITA’S EMPIRE takes a step up from bottom maiden claimers, but in breaking her maiden won by 9.5 lengths. She takes a step up to non-winners of two in a race in which past performances of these runners look about the same.

She has speed and should benefit from the inside post.

Also on the ticket: ALL OTHERS.

8th Race (3:55 p.m. ET, claiming)

POCO CHARLIE takes a step up in class and comes in off a third-place finish in a fast race over the all-weather. He stays on the polytrack and won over the surface three races back. It’s a wide-open race and he should be a decent price.
Also on the ticket: ALL OTHERS.

9th Race (4:28 p.m. ET, allowance optional claiming)

BEMMA’S BOY has had a long vacation but has plenty of works to his credit. The class edge he has could surface in the drive to the wire.

Also on the ticket: TELEPHONE TALKER.

10th Race (5:02 p.m. ET, maiden special weights)

GOOCH GO BRAGH

Also on the ticket: None. Single.

Gulfstream Park 50-cent Late Pick 4:

7) ALL (7 horses)
8) ALL (8 horses)
9) #7 Telephone Talker, #9 Bemma’s Boy.
10) #9 Gooch Go Bragh.
The ticket: ALL (7 horses) with ALL (8 horses) with 7-9 with 9 ($56)
