Al Cimaglia: Pompano Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, December 27, 2021

Pompano Park has a compact 8-race card scheduled and the night starts with a large Pick 5 pool. Due to a $11,116 carryover, there will be a $60,000 guaranteed pool for the sequence that begins in Race 1. My focus will be on the 0.50 Pick 4 which starts in Race 5 and has a $15,000 guaranteed pool.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 5

2-Noahs Mill (7/2)-First start for the Di Cicco after a claim and Miller will do the steering. Appears to have the best chance of landing in the pocket behind the program chalk and rolling by down the lane.
5-Hot Art (7/5)-This Plano trainee is looking for its 5th straight win, and this 12-year-old will be following the usual plan of getting on the engine. Eventually the streak will end but facing a short field not loaded with gate speed doesn't hurt chances for another picture.

Race 6

2-Steel Schooner (5/2)-Broke in last but was in too deep with Open company and fits well here. Back in at the level of 2 recent pictures and should be a main player if minds manners.
4-Lexus Markus (9/5)-Drew off by 9 lengths for trainer Devan Miller in the 2nd local start in the condition below this one. This is the top money winner in 2021 in this field and shouldn't blush at the competition. David Miller returns for his 2nd tour of duty, and this odds-on winner should be put in play early on.
7-Cartier Zette (6-1)-Will take a swing there will be lively fractions and this 7-year-old will catch the chalks down the lane. Should be a price and has the gate speed to get a good seat.

Race 7

5-Lets Roll (5/2)-This will be the 4th local start and the 1st time for Miller to steer. Comes off 3 even efforts against better and now drops to a spot to shine.
6-Island Beach Boy (7/2)-Comes off a tough trip versus this kind. The 3-year-old showed big speed in both wins here but must deal with older foes now. Hennessey takes the lines, and this was his choice over #4. Looks like a player with the right trip.
7-Brilliant Strike N (3-1)-This 10-year-old has won 10 of 33 starts and did some good work at HoP. Was claimed for $15k twice here and is back in at the level of recent success.

Race 8

1-Crooked Creek (4-1)-There are reasons to avoid this 4-year-old. Has had breaking issues and doesn't leave in a hurry but my play will be to fade the morning line chalk #6. Could be overlooked at the windows and has a shot if keeps trotting.
2-Starlit Thiswanday (6-1)-Beaten favorite had a rough trip and finished a disappointing 5th at this level. Willing to excuse because with this post draw the race could set-up differently. Shetler can get the point or land in the pocket and the price should be much better than last week.
5-Broadway Bruiser (7-1)-Will toss last from the 8-hole and was competitive at this level back on 12-1. Seems to do best racing near the top of the stack and Boyd should be able to work that trip from this post at a solid price.
