Saturday night's feature at Mohawk is a Preferred Trot with a $34,000 purse. My focus will be on the Late Pick 4 sequence which begins in Race 7. Although there isn't a guaranteed pool it should be in the $50,000 range regardless.

Yesterday, the posted Pick 4 ticket at the Red Mile cost $96 and it connected. The (7/2/2/4) combination paid $278.30 on a $1 bet.

Old habits die hard at the Red Mile as they continue to race in the afternoon up against Keeneland, one of the finest thoroughbreds meets. Someone needs to explain how that makes sense even though the Lexington track is equipped with lights.

Last night at Mohawk, Doug McNair led all drivers with three wins and trainer Richard Moreau made two trips to the winner's circle.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7
3-No Bu-Blistered the last 1/2 in .54 to win. May handle class hike and will use at a 12-1 ML.
4-Mohawk Warrior-Moves up but McNair could leave and get a close-up seat and sweep by.
6-Traceur Hanover-This is a spot to shine and Waples could work out a nice trip and win at long odds.
9-Tom Hill-Post adds to the price but like #6 has had success at this level and will use in an open affair.

Race 8
2-Champagne Phil-Grinder has been racing well but not sealing the deal. May trip out tonight.
4-Mr Wiggle Pants-10-1 in the ML and McNair's choice over #7 who is 3-1. Interesting and I'll bite.
5-Evenin Of Pleasure-Drops from Preferred and that could do the trick, has beaten better recently.

Race 9
1-Odds On Amethyst-Usually an all or nothing horse 29-10-1-1, off last best to use at 5-1 ML.
3-Dia Monde-Cruised in last at Yonkers and is another who fits this class well.
4-Major Athens-Last 4 have been strong and best to not overlook at this level.
7-Musical Rhythm-Comes off a break but this is a comfortable spot. Best effort can get the job done.

Race 10
2-Its A Big Secret-Winner of 2 straight was Filion's choice and may handle the rise, at a square price.
7-Paparazzi Hanover-Takes a good drop looking for 6th win in what will be the 40th start this year.
8-East End-Drops to a better level and maybe lasix will finally fully kick in. Fits with these.
