Cal Expo has a 10-race program ready to go this evening. The 0.20 Pick 4 starts in Race 7. The sequence has a $25,000 guaranteed pool with a 16% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

3-Marced Magic (3-1)-Dropped in last and was driven like he was the best. Made an aggressive brush from near the back, got the top but was nipped in a photo. If Plano provides a decent steer, backers should be rewarded but will be a short price.

Race 8

2-Fast Track (15-1)-Will take a swing for a price and Lackey could benefit from this post draw and trip out to surprise.
4-Western Devil (3-1)-Raced well in last but couldn't catch #5 who benefitted from an inside post draw and got the top easily. This race might play out differently as Roland could land in the pocket without using much gas.
5-Villa For Rent (2-1)-Got on the engine and was well-rated by Svendsen in last. Looks like the one to beat again and should follow the same script. But it could end differently if challenged early on.
8-Fox Valley Triton (6-1)-Kennedy's choice over #6, who is a Bertrand entry. Same pilot steered last week and raced from the back. Did rally to finish 3rd and will look for a more aggressive plan this time.

Race 9

1-Daybreak Girl (5-1)-Bumps-up after pacing a 57.2 back half to win off an efficient trip. Could offer a fair price and there isn't anyone to fear in this field. Lackey should be in contention throughout.
3-Dancingonthesand (6-1)-Steps-up after taking the long way around and rallied with a 56.2 last half. Best to not overlook Plested trainee for an encore and the price should be right.
4-Steady Breeze (9/2)-Roland entry is the wild card in this field and the qualifier on 1-9 wasn't much. Hasn't raced since 7-8 when was claimed back by this same conditioner for $9,600. Has hit the board in 11 of 13 CalX starts with 7 pictures. The program chalks are beatable and should enjoy the company if fires hot off the bench.
5-Go Away N Play (2-1)-Plano provided a nice steer, was able to control the fractions and paced home a winner with a .59 back half. Everything fell into place on 1-2 but probably won't be as easy this time.

Race 10

1-I'm An Anthlete (9/5)-Old-timer put it together for a win with the trainer driving. Can stay good for another despite stepping up and now gets the services of Roland.
3-Rockinsicience (6-1)-Even effort in last and Plano gets the call here. Has raced on an off-track in last 2 where its record is 1-8. Comes back in sequence and was off over 3 weeks before the last start. Looking for better at a good price.
7-Captain Terminator (5-1)-Kennedy's pick of 2 from the Schneider barn (5-7). Drops in 4th local start and should be in striking range at the top of the lane.
