Al Cimaglia: Woodbine Mohawk Pick 4 Analysis | Saturday, January 29, 2022

Woodbine Mohawk Park has an 11-race card scheduled with the feature, a Preferred Pace with a $36,000 purse rolling in Race 2. The 0.20 Early Pick 4 starts in Race 4 and there should be a healthy pool. That sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 4

2-The Amazingsando (4-1)-Was nipped by #1 in last and took the long way around pulling at the 1/2 and following dull cover. The winner stayed inside and threaded through traffic but this 5-year-old was 5-wide down the lane. Makes the 2nd start on Lasix, plus this is the 2nd start off the bench and looks like a major player.
4-Whatawaytogo (8-1)-Willing to take a swing for a price and this Moreau entry might be overlooked at the windows. Rushed up to get on the point at the 1/2 and was caught near the wire by two that came from way back. Will look for a different trip and a better finish.
7-Peter Poole (9/2)-Drops, makes the 3rd start for Auciello and McNair will be back between the pipes. Should be in the hunt for a picture versus this crew.

Race 5

2-Highlandbeachlover (3-1)-Dropped, took control, and didn't look back. That confidence builder could bode well for another big effort.
6-Sportsline (8-1)-Faded after a tough trip and gets a new pilot with Kelly taking the lines who has driven in the past. This post draw helps as there should be a fair trip to be had. Has won 10 of 37 at Wbsb and can come off cover with one big move down the lane.
8-HP Napoleon (7/2)-Beaten chalk has been in water too deep and now drops to a spot to shine. Henry takes over for Filion and that may provide a spark. Has beaten better than this and comes back in sequence, should be a player.

Race 6

1-Thrilling Times (9/2)-Used in the snow to get the top in last but was then bottled up on the rail until too late and came a close 2nd. Roy takes the lines and should be a major threat but won't be 21-1 this time.
2-Arukidnme Cabbie (4-1)-Has been racing well and finished 3rd behind the one above. McNair may look to leave and get a good seat but there is other gate speed in this field. Either way, recent form has been too good to leave off the ticket.
5-Capitano Italiano (3-1)-May not be able to control this race by getting on the point but could take a picture coming off cover. JMac steers and best to not overlook chances for consecutive trips to the winner's circle.

Race 7

1-Mustang Beach (7/2)-Changed to the Marfisi barn to start the year and won 2 straight. Came a game 3rd in last and it wasn't a friendly trip. This barn has won 8 times in 33 tries over the past 30 days and this 4-year-old has a good chance of posting a win for the 3rd time in 4 starts.
8-Beyond Better (5/2)-Has broken stride in 2 of the last 4 but was cashing checks versus Preferred company earlier this month. Raced from the back in last, minded manners and cruised home in 54.4. Now drops again and JMac gets the assignment, should be ready for an aggressive try.
