Al Cimaglia: Cal Expo Pick 4 Analysis | Friday, February 11, 2022

Cal Expo kicks off the weekend with a 10-race card. The 0.20 Pick 4 starts in Race 7. The sequence has a $30,000 guaranteed pool with a 16% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

1-Arnie's Army (10-1)-Interesting play at the ML or better. Bumps-up but there isn't a monster in this field and the last couple of tries were better than the lines look. Hasn't won on Lasix yet but has been finishing miles and will look for Svendsen to have in the mix turning for the wire.
3-Outlawnothnbutsmrt (2-1)-Not liking the short price but a picture could happen with a top try. Might be best to watch the board as better efforts have happened when the money shows.
6-Devils Brother (3-1)-Stayed inside last week and came a close 3rd in an improved performance. Kennedy sticks and will look for the upswing to continue. Has been in the hunt at CalX hitting the board in 11 of 21 with 2 wins.

Race 8

3-Villa For Rent (9/5)-Plested trainee has won 3 of 5 and has been consistently good versus this kind. Will be a short price and is difficult to leave off the ticket.
4-Heza Big Dealer (8-1)-Could offer a price and drops to a competitive level. Likes to race on the point and doesn't have to go to the half in 55.3 this week.
5-Western Devil (3-1)-Comes off a bumpy trip and fits with this crew. Roland drives his own and he needs to provide a sharp steer. One move type should be close to the top and could trip out if finds the pocket behind either of the 2 above.

Race 9

1-Mibwest Kid (8/5)-Winner of 3 straight fits into this condition and shouldn't be bothered by facing older foes. Roland could have the 4-year-old out and rolling, looking to make every call a winning one.
6-California Rock (4-1)-Has been cashing checks versus better and now drops to the same class as last win which came in the slop on 12-12. Handy sort could win on the engine or coming off cover.

Race 10

1-Gene Eugene (4-1)-This 9-year-old was 11 lengths back at the first call and rallied to beat this bunch last week with a 56.4 back half. Gene is only 1-12 over the past 2 years but he's a player if stays good.
3-Hi Ho's Little Rev (4-1)-Comes off a pair of even efforts versus $4k claimers. Drops and Svendsen gets the assignment for Johnson. Looking for an aggressive try and to be in striking range at the top of lane.
10-Tink And Tiger (7/5)-Ten-year-old still likes to compete and drops to a spot to shine. The drawback is the post draw and would be an odds-on choice from the inside. Should be in the mix at the wire with a lively pace.
