The Americans

The first American to appear at Royal Ascot 2022 will be longshot Late September (Rusty Arnold) in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes (Race 2, 10:05 am). He is being offered at 50-1 in some of the British books. The Munnings colt won his second start at Churchill after a debut fourth at Keeneland, racing twice on dirt. The main American interest in the Royal Ascot meeting will be on display a race later in the Group 1 King’s Stand (Race 3, 10:40 am). That’s when Golden Pal (Wesley Ward) makes his reappearance at the prestigious stand. He was third here in 2020 in the Norfolk Stakes at age 2. The 2021 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner is second choice at 7-2 in the British books to Nature Strip, the legendary Australian sprinter who has accumulated 20 wins in his career dating back to 2017.

The Main Event

Tuesday’s Group 1 St. James’s Palace Stakes for milers is centered fourth on the seven-race card. A total of 13 have entered with Coroebus an odds-on favorite among the British books around 4-5. The Godolphin-owned winner of the Group 1 Two Thousand Guineas last out in his 3-year-old debut, Coroebus is a neck away from perfection in 4 starts. This will be his first trip outside of Newmarket. My Prospero is the only other horse offered by the books in single digits, taking a significant class rise off back-to-back victories for trainer William Haggas. The John Gosden yard has won this race 3 times in the last 8 years and counters with Mighty Ulysses under Frankie Dettori.
