October 21: Hayley Turner's British Champions Day Picks

by Hayley Turner, GBI Racing

October 20, 2017

GBI Racing Ambassador, Hayler Turner, gives her views on Saturday's QIPCO British Champions Day card.

Bet QIPCO Champions Day with Xpressbet at Ascot to get 10X Rewards Points

Race 1 - 8:25AM ET - QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2)
#1 Big Orange (9/2)
I don’t understand why Order Of St George (1/1) is such a short price given Big Orange beat him at Ascot in the Gold Cup. The ground will be a concern if the going is soft, but if there is no rain it will be in Big Orange’s favour and he will be the value bet.

Race 2 - 9:00AM ET - QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1)
#10 Harry Angel (1/1)
I like The Tin Man (7/1) at an each-way price but Harry Angel will take all the beating. He has matured mentally over the year and that has made all the difference.

Race 3 - 9:40AM ET - QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1)
#2 Bateel (3/1)
I am close to the Francis Graffard yard and the horse is in really good form. She prefers soft ground so a bit of rain after the first would be ideal.

Race 4 - 10:15AM ET - Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored By QIPCO) (Group 1)
#8 Beat The Bank (4/1)
He has been stepping up in grade slowly and won his last two races nicely, the latest by five lengths. This would be a perfect end to a great season for his trainer Andrew Balding.

Race 5 - 10:40AM ET - QIPCO Champion Stakes (Group 1)
#9 Cracksman (9/5)
It was a shame he didn’t run in the Arc but he has clearly taken a long time to get ready. I feel he is really progressing now and coming into the race in peak form.

Race 6 - 11:30AM ET - Balmoral Handicap (Sponsored By QIPCO)
#4 George William (20/1)
Won last time out and Hollie Doyle is taking a valuable 3lb off here. He was a very close second over course and distance earlier in the year.
