October 20: Hoosier Park Picks; Breeders Crown Eliminations

by Al Cimaglia

October 20, 2017

This weekend at Hoosier Park, Breeders Crown elimination races will be on tap. The eliminations tonight will feature the gals, mares plus two and three-year-old fillies. My focus will be on races 3-6, which besides being elimination events comprise the $10,000 guaranteed Pick 4.

There is a school of thought that says to avoid betting on elimination races. The top five finishers move onto the finals and some trainers are concentrating on qualifying rather than going all out to win. That's part of racing and it isn't a secret. So, when playing elimination races I use some live price shots who are in good form and may look to do their best work on elimination night. I also value horses that show strong past performances at the same track.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 3
3-LA Delight-Won $674K in '16, but is looking for 1st win. Has been close, tuned up versus older at Moh.
1-Nike Franco N-2-1 ML chalk is consistent and should be right there at the wire.
6-Bedroomconfessions-Winner of 9 in 22 tries, and if pace is hot can sweep by all.

Race 4
1-Caviart Ally-Rates a slight edge off a huge try at Lex from the 8 hole on a sloppy track.
3-Agent Q-Shows a win at Hoosier and is a major player on a dry track.
4-Blazin Britches-Has lost 2 straight, before that won 10 of 11 and should enjoy the surface.

Race 5
5-Rainbow Room-Faded in last 2 to finish 2nd, but has a nice win at HoP and will respect chances.
8-Kissin In The Sand-Won 2 in a row at Lex, could keep it going, but from the outside may not seek top.
4-Percy Bluechip-In from Moh and has done well versus tough foes, could pull a mild upset.

Race 6
3-Youaremycandygirl-8/5 chalk is on a roll and has won on all oval sizes. Her race to lose.
5-Strong Opinion-Will toss last and shows a nice effort at HoP. Will use in gimmicks at a square price.
8-Bye Hanover-Similar to #5 but should be longer odds. With the right trip could add some pop to gimmicks.
