Hoosier Park begins the weekend with a 14-race card. The headliners are 2-year-old Indiana breds competing in Sires Stakes action. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11, and the sequence will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 11
1-Shadyjake (9/2)-Had missed a start before the last race and pulled just after the 1/2 to land on the point. Did race eyeball-to-eyeball with #5 down the lane but as usual couldn't seal the deal. The 0-15 record this year is cause for pause. But drops to a better spot, could get sucked around and surprise.
3-Seeing Eye Single (5-1)-Left from the 8 post in last and was parked almost to the 1/2-mile marker. The trip was brutal from the start and was jammed up a bit down the lane. This Burke trainee drops and has drawn poorly in 3 of the last 4, looking for better here.
5-Brookview Bullet (2-1)-Raced gamely to the wire but wasn't sharp enough to win. This is a softer spot, should be a main player and possibly over bet.
Race 12
1-J B Gram (2/5)-Erv Miller pupil has shown big speed in both starts and can finish off miles. Lays over this field if comes close to previous efforts.
Race 13
4-Heidis Image (4-1)-Was used hard from the 9-hole into a .26 opening quarter to get on the engine and hung on for a nice win at 6-1. Should be in the hunt and could win at a square price if the program chalk is used cautiously from post 8.
8-JK's Rollin Baby (2-1)-Winner of 4 straight is sharper than sharp and drew off by 7-lengths last time. There isn't anything to criticize except should be bet down and not sure about the desire to leave hard from this post for a $20,000 purse. Hasn't had an outside post draw this year.
Race 14
1-Uncmprmising Z Tam (7/2)-Drops and should be more competitive at this level. Has missed a start but regular driver Oosting returns. This pilot should have the 9-year-old forwardly placed off the gate.
2-Cheese Omelet (9/2)-Scioto shipper has a win in 2 starts at HoP and maybe a change of scenery will help. Fits with this crew, has some gate speed so Tetrick should get a close-up seat. Has only 1 win in 15 starts this year but in 2021 hit the board in 17 of 30 with 9 pictures.
4-Frankiepark (8-1)-Camera shy 5-year-old gets some needed class relief and comes off a good effort to finish 3rd leaving from post 7. Was driven aggressively in last and could be overlooked at the windows tonight, best to respect chances for a picture.
