Hawthorne Racecourse has 10-races scheduled for tonight. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 7
1-Letmeincoach (3-1)-This 2-year-old has a nose for the wire winning 4 of 6 lifetime starts and has the speed to add to that total. Makes its Hawthorne debut and is a main player if this gelding takes to the track.
2-Rockin Vic (5/2)-This is another freshman learning its lessons and will include but not loving the short price. Not sure if this Simmons pupil can win if it needs to pass others down the lane.
5-Barry J (6/5)-Got up in time to break its maiden on 8-14. Maybe, finally hitting the wire first will lead to another win. Can roll off cover and should be in striking range at the top of the stretch.
Race 8
3-Finleys Filly (6-1)-One-move type that could get the pocket behind last week's winner and stablemate #9 the program chalk. Leaving from post 9 may cause the chalk to fade down the lane and this mare could pick up the pieces.
10-Better Days Ahead (7/2)-Team Husted trainee takes a meaningful drop and should be right there at the wire with a sharp steer. The post makes the price, likes the track but needs to be near the leaders at the 3/4 pole.
Race 9
2-Now Wish Me Luck (6-1)-Joins the Roberts barn and comes off a decent qualifier. Biggest improvement could be between the pipes. Wilfong takes a seat and that's a ++ driver change.
3-Botta Bing (9-1)-Also joins the Roberts barn and finished just behind the one above in its qualifier. Will look for some value as Bender takes the lines in a wide-open affair.
6-Eyesontheprize Lou (9/5)-Morning line chalk could either crush this field or break stride and not recover. Will include but also look to others with more value.
Race 10
2-Air Ride (4-1)-Stayed on the rail, then tried to shake free and make a move down the lane but was bothered. Was driven conservatively in both starts and maybe the wrapper comes off tonight.
8-Captain Cameo (9-1)-This is a 6-year-old making its 2nd lifetime start. Raced from the back on 8-14 and did close sharply but was too far behind into a slow pace. Paced the 2nd half in 56.2 and could be in the hunt if starts more alertly.
