Hawthorne Racecourse returns to action with a 12-race card. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 9. The sequence has a $15,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 9
2-Frozen Shark (2-1)-Looked like a winner at the 1/16th pole and was overtaken by a horse from the backfield. Probably not the easiest to drive and that leaves the door open. If Warren can get the freshman to fire sooner, he might not be caught down the lane.
3-Ccculater (7/2)-Was going good last time until after the last turn and veered off the track. Will respect connections and bank on the issue to be solved by team Leonard.
4-Major Harley (7-1)-The barn doesn't have a win this year and the pilot seldom takes a picture. But versus this field it's probably best to include at a price. Finally passed a couple down the lane in last, may get an efficient trip and roll by late.
6-Fox Valley Falcon (7-1)-Cashed two 3rd place checks in Springfield and should enjoy this company. Bender steers again and he could have this freshman in position to beak its maiden.
Race 10
3-Sky Dawson (30-1)-This is a NW1 and the entire field except #1 is 3 or 4 years old. This 3-year-gelding, is making its 3rd Haw start and paced the back half in 56.4 on a good track last week. That was an improved effort and will look for better tonight.
7-Key Ingrediant (12-1)-Makes his 2nd start, raced from the back in last and showed some spunk with a 56.4 back half plus a 26.4 last panel. Willing to respect connections, this is an entirely different group than last week and could be in striking range turning for the wire.
9-Control Your Roll (9/5)-This is another team Warren entry who is often in the hunt but can't finish with a winning effort. Short price, so will respect but look to others with more value.
10-CC (7/2)-Thinking Wilfong will need to leave and land in a decent seat. Using because this pilot can keep the 3-year-old close enough to the leaders to have a chance for the top prize. It's a scattered bunch and maybe CC will be overlooked with this post draw.
Race 11
4-Yeahboyyeah (5/2)-Being the fastest horse in the race surely doesn't guarantee a win but, in this case, it looks that way. Competitive sort has hit the board in 7 of 14 here but has only one picture. With a clean trip the win total should change.
Race 12
2-Armbro Arya (9/2)-Recent form has slipped but this is a much easier spot and should be forwardly placed. Has hit the board in 3 of 8 at Haw with 1 win and looks like a player at a square price.
3-Rockin Pulse (5/2)-Eaton trainee has 1 win in 5 Stickney starts and has come off cover in every race except in the victory on 9-10-21. Maybe Warren will look to land near the top of the stack with this post draw.
7-Farewell Tour (9/2)-Comes off an even effort on 8-19 and returns in sequence tonight. Wilfong steered for the 1st time at the meet in last and returns. There's no real gate speed inside, so will look for an aggressive steer and could surprise at a nice price.
