Hoosier Park has a 14-race card with the headliners being Indiana bred 2-year-old colts and geldings battling in Sires Stakes action. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11, and the sequence will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 11
1-Frankie Frankie (5/2)-Bender is stationed at Hawthorne tonight so Oosting gets the assignment, and he should be up to the challenge. Pulled away down the lane at 4/5 in last after getting an efficient 2-hole ride. This may not be as easy, but we probably have not seen the best from this freshman.
6-Coach Stefanos (3-1)-Just missed in an impressive try from post 7 to a trip out winner (#7) who was favored, and is the program chalk tonight. This Miller trainee looks like the one to beat if he minds his manners.
Race 12
1-Somewhereinverona (5-1)-Raced conservatively in the 1st start in town and it was his HoP debut. Did pace the 2nd half in 54.3 and was off 3 weeks before the last start. Best to respect, especially if the morning line price holds up.
7-Gray Dragon (7/2)-Raced evenly in a 148.3 mile versus Open company on 8-19. Looks like a good fit at this level and expecting an aggressive try here.
Race 13
5-Im Sir Blake A (6-1)-Was an odds-on winner at Haw versus Open company and drew off by 4 1/2 lengths in the fastest mile of the night. Raced big from post 9 in the only other start at HoP on 8-28. Oosting steers for Bender and looks like a player at a generous morning line price.
6-Goldie's Legacy (4-1)-This 4-year-old fits at this level, can dial up the speed and may land on the point. The 148.1 win versus this kind on 8-5 wasn't a fluke, best to not overlook.
7-Little Rocket Man (8/5)-Here is the local hero who is difficult to rule out but could be bet down off the morning line and this isn't an easy group. Will respect the home court advantage but recent form has been dull and will use others with more value.
Race 14
5-Frequent Image (10-1)-Outraced his odds last time and had missed a start. Left hard and then rallied willingly after being interfered with down the lane when the one below broke. Won't be 41-1 this time but is worth a swing at the program price.
6-Rockin Rebellion (7/2)-Not sure what caused the rare break in last, and if not appeared to be a picture taker. Maybe was a bit tired in the stretch after missing a start and will look for better tonight.
