Al Cimaglia: Hoosier Park Late Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, September 5, 2022

Hoosier Park has a 14-race Labor Day card scheduled. The headliners are 3-year-old Indiana breds competing in Sires Stakes actions. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 is comprised of Sires Stakes races. The sequence begins in Race 11, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11

2-Bluebird Dove (7/2)-Has hit the board in 7 of 9 at HoP and has won 2 straight. Excluding 2 breaks in stride this filly has had her nose near the wire in 6 of 7 starts. Too consistent to leave off the ticket.
3-Swans Eye (8-1)-Was off 2 weeks before the last start and faded down the lane after being used to get the lead. Should be forwardly placed and could trip out travelling behind either #2 or #8.
8-M-M's Dream (7/5)-Won on 8-24 after being off for 3-weeks in a controlled, deliberate fashion. Came 1st over for most of the mile and grinded it out to keep a perfect 6-6 record in 2022. Gets tested with the outside draw and should be bet again. Has been the odds-on choice in 5 of the last 6 starts.

Race 12

6-Rip Wheeler (5/2)-Comes off a sparkling win with a sizzling 52.3 last half to make it 2 straight. Has had a solid year hitting the board in 13 of 16 with 6 pictures and looks like a major player.
7-Soaring Now (2-1)-Comes off a wide journey in the Millstein at Nfld but kept coming to finish 3rd. Back to home base where this colt has 6 wins in 13 starts. Should be fresh, has only raced once since 7-22 and if 100% could add to his win total tonight.

Race 13

4-Ezra (5-1)-The Miller entry returns from Lexington and had some success in 2 of 3 starts. This is an opportunity to prove the 3-year-old belongs with some of the better Indiana bred trotters. Gets a good post draw and should be in the hunt at a square price.
7-Dover In Motion (5/2)-Set fast fractions in last leaving from post 7 to take the point into a .54 opening half. Did drift out and was tired down the lane. Will excuse losing the lead, still finished 2nd and with a different trip could improve upon that performance.

Race 14

2-Marvelous Marshia (5-1)-Will need her best to beat this level of competition but it has been done before. Should offer a solid price and with this post draw can race near the top of the stack. That's probably the best winning plan.
6-JK's Rollin Baby (3-1)-This Erv Miller pupil has won 6 straight and for the most part made it look it easy. Has done great work at Hoosier hitting the board in 12 of 18 with 8 pictures. The 3-1 morning line appears lofty, but it's risky to leave off the ticket.
