This is closing night for the Hawthorne meet which means mandatory payouts in all pools. The card features consolation races for Illinois breds. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 8. The sequence has a $15,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 8
3-Fillys Revenge (6/5)- Using but looking to others with value. Rogers drove to a win at DuQ, and he is back in the bike tonight. That could make a difference because with a flat mile this freshman filly will be tough to beat.
6-Major Rosita (6-1)-This young lady has been consistent hitting the board in 9 of 15 lifetime and 4 of 6 here. Gets a positive driver change in Bates and this is 2nd Lasix. Drew well and could land right behind the chalk and look to trip out.
8-South Gate Sally (6-1)-Had some good efforts with better pilots aboard back in July at Haw. Bender gets the call tonight, which should help, and he won with Sally for her only picture back on 7-23 in Stickney.
Race 9
3-Allegheny Hanover (7-1)-Bettors Delight 2-year-old raced evenly in its 1st start here after doing some work at Mohawk. Bates should have this young gelding forwardly placed and at a solid price. Could use one move down the lane to catch the program chalk.
5-Ccculater (8/5)-This team Leonard entry has been racing from the back as in way back. Came the last half in 56.1 to finish 2nd on 8-1. Should down this this crew with a decent trip but is still green and it can take time to learn how to win.
Race 10
2-Babe's Magic (2-1)-Shows speed at Hoosier and appears to fit nicely here. But will be a short price and the times at HoP aren't identical to miles here. Showed a nice move to win on 8-23 and will respect chances but will look to others that will provide more pop to the Pick 4 payout.
8-Proven Point (25-1)-Makes only its 2nd start and the line doesn't look like much but did finish nicely with a 58.3 back half. The 28.1 last quarter was respectable and could be in the hunt if Franco does his part.
9-Vintage Memories (3/2)-This looks like the one to beat as the morning line suggests. Made his Haw debut a winning one by wiring the field from post 8.
Race 11
5-Martha Max (3-1)-Camera shy mare is a mere 2 for 46 spanning the past 2 years but can't toss versus this bunch. Wilfong is hot and he might be able to squeeze a bit more out of the Eaton trainee who has been facing better.
7-Johnnys Gal June (9/2)-Team Leonard entry has hit the board in 15 of 33 at Haw with 5 pictures. Using and thinking there will be some pace to close into. Chances improve if that is the case and besides #5 there could be a couple on the outside that leave for early position.
8-U'll Learn (5/2)-Has been facing better and just missed at this level on 7-24. Likes to grind it out but Warren may look to put this mare in play sooner. Finishes with quick last quarters but is pace dependent. Hopefully won't be over bet and needs a sharp steer.
