Al Cimaglia: Meadowlands-NJ Classic Early Pick 4 Analysis | Friday, September 16, 2022

The Meadowlands has a solid 14-race card ready to go featuring New Jersey bred 2-year-old trotters and pacers. The 0.50 Early Pick 4 is an all New Jersey Classic sequence. It has a $50,000 guaranteed pool with a 15% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6

1-A Good Chardonnay (5-1)-Comes off a big try from post 10 after being off 25 days. Miller should work a good trip from here. Could roll by late and might be overlooked at the windows.
3-Quick Stop (3-1)-This filly beat the one above from post 5, made the most of a nice trip and knew how to finish off the mile. Is always there at the wire, can do it in different ways, and was also off since 9-1.
4-Grand Fashion (2-1)-Same as the 2 above, raced well and could be better tonight. But how small will the price be?
Tetrick will put her in play, so best to respect.

Race 7

1-Quietly Brilliant (5-1)-Team Svanstedt looks like they have another talented filly. Comes off a sharp effort from post 8 on 9-9 to just get nosed out and previously raced on 8-5. Looks like a player although this post draw may not help. But this pilot knows how to work a trip.
2-Defacement (6-1)-Looking for some value and for Miller to provide a sharp steer. My guess is this will be a more aggressive effort. Could be the spot for a stalking trip that leads to its 1st picture.
3-Bella Ciao (3-1)-Had a winning debut by rolling the back half in a snappy 56.3. Came off cover but not sure what the game plan will be here. The 155.2 speed didn't look like a fluke, there was more in the tank.

Race 8

3-Oh Well (5/2)-This Muscle Hill freshman appears loaded with talent. Shows up with top efforts despite poor post draws and it looks like this race goes through her.
5-Little Expensive (4-1)-The one above has a slight edge over this Julie Miller pupil. This filly has dominated when getting on the engine but that plan might empty the tank a bit versus this field. But it's best to respect because she is a major player in a tough race with a flat mile.

Race 9

5-Dyladmar(7/2)-Mohawk invader has gotten better and might have turned a few heads with a sharp score in his M1 debut. Andrew McCarthy provided a perfect steer and the Wellwood trainee appeared to like the Big M stretch. Looking for another top try here.
6-Southwind Admiral (3-1)-This Tactical Landing colt came off a sick scratch and posted a dominate win last week. Left from post 8 and was about 8-wide going into the 1st turn but still landed on the point. Then took a pocket ride and crushed everyone rolling down the lane to draw off by 3 lengths. Looks like the one to beat.
