Al Cimaglia: Woodbine Mohawk Park Late Pick 4 Analysis | Saturday, September 17, 2022

Woodbine Mohawk Park has a competitive 12-race card ready to go. The main event comes in Race 10, the Milton Stakes for fillies and mares with a $230,000 purse. The 0.20 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 9, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 9

5-Warrawee Vital (4-1)-Was on a nice roll and then was stuck with post 10 versus Bulldog and others. Will toss last and respect chances here with the post edge over #9.
9-Tattoo Artist (5/2)-Raced gamely in last from post 8 and wasn't going to catch Bulldog but held position nicely. Has the gate speed to get on the engine like last week and could make every call a winning one versus this crew.

Race 10

4-Test Of Faith (6/5)-Seemed to toy with the field in the Elimination and Dave Miller measured the effort out perfectly to win by 1/2 length. Should be difficult to beat with a fair trip and an all-out effort.

Race 11

2-Twin B Powerball (5/2)-Was used hard in last to get the top, sizzled the 1st half in 26.2-54.4 and then faded down the lane. McNair replaces Dunn, it will be his 1st time steering this 4-year-old who is usually in the hunt and will expect the same here.
4-St Lads Sterling (5-1)-Consistent check casher can be there at the wire. Willing to take a swing and the price will be better than recent outings. Has been the race time chalk in the last 2 starts and might be overlooked tonight.
5-Momas Son Byrne (8-1)-Looked like a different horse in drawing off by over 7 lengths for Auciello in the 1st start after a claim. This 4-year-old is facing some younger foes and that shouldn't hurt. No issue using at this price and will hope the upswing is just beginning.
6-Southside Eddy (4-1)-This is another of the 3 trainees from the Auciello barn. Eddy comes off a sharp score from post 8, capped off with a 26.3 last quarter. They probably won't go to the half in 57.1 but a quicker pace shouldn't matter. This was Filion's choice and it's best to not overlook in a competitive affair.

Race 12

2-Woodmere Stealdeal (3-1)-Disapointed at 9/5 in last which was only the 2nd start since 5-15. Comes right back at the same level and might have found a beatable field to snag his 1st win on Lasix.
5-JM Jack Of Hearts (6-1)-This veteran should relish the company and knows his way to the Mohawk winner's circle. Hensley can work a stalking trip from this post and surprise at a solid price.
8-B Stoney (4-1)-This 6-year-old is 0-14 the past 2 years and it's the 2nd start off a sick scratch. That said, here is your 3rd morning line chalk and drops to a soft spot. Has won 9 of 36 at Wbsb and is risky to leave out.
9-Stonebridge Rex (5-1)-Took a shot at a dominant winner last week and failed. Tonight, McNair should have the pedal down when the wings close. Needs to land on the point or get a close-up seat without emptying the tank. The 5-1 morning line seems flattering, and my guess is the price will be better.
