Yonkers Raceway has an 11-race card set to begin the week. The feature rolls in Race 8, an Open Handicap Pace with a $39,000 purse. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 7
2-Venier Hanover (4-1)-Winner of 3 straight looks like a different horse since joining the Dowse barn after a claim on 8-8. Beat the $40k claimers like drum. May not draw off by 5 lengths here but should be there at the wire once again.
3-Buddy Hill (3-1)-Bumps up after wiring the field in last. Won't be an odds-on choice again and last week's win was on an off-track which Buddy likes. But best to respect, still fits and won versus this kind at YR back on 4-11.
4-Lou's Sweetrevenge (8-1)-There is some early speed in this field and Lou likes to come off cover. That type of trip worked here on 8-8 versus this class. Using, the same result could happen again and did pay a solid 6-1 that night.
Race 8
1-Ignatius A (9/2)-Couldn't seal the deal on 9-5 and now bumps up and gets a ++ driver change in Bartlett. Hasn't won in 4 tries here but should be on the point or in the pocket which could lead to being in the mix at the wire.
2-Casual Cool (9-1)-Paced the 2nd half in 53.4 and made up a lot of ground down the lane but fell short. Gets some post relief moving in from the 6 hole. Likes to race near the top of the stack, that can happen and should be a price.
3-Funatthebeach N (3-1)-Came up 1st over and caught the leader and went by down the lane. Was hooked late by #6 for a dead heat finish. Did the heavy lifting last week and has a post edge on the co-winner. Looking for a similiar plan and the pace should be lively.
Race 9
2-Our Corelli N (3-1)-Gets class and post relief plus Bartlett grabs the lines. Should land in a good early seat and look to collar the leaders down the lane.
3-Viva Las Vegas N (15-1)-Lachance could work a nice steer and be forwardly placed with this post draw. If that happens, a trip-out win might result.
Race 10
1-Big Sir (7/2)-Big Jim 5-year-old should show up at this level. Needs to be in the pocket or on the lead off the gate and hope the trip is smooth. That script can play out.
6-Boiler Maker (2-1)-Takes a meaningful drop, Bartlett takes over and really has no excuse for not being right there at the line.
