Al Cimaglia: Hoosier Park Late Pick 4 Analysis | Friday, September 30, 2022

Hoosier Park begins the weekend with a 13-race card. The feature comes in Race 10, an Open Pace with a $22,000 purse. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 10, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 10

2-Goldie's Legacy (7/2)-Cullipher 4-year-old steps-up and comes back in sequence after a sharp score on 9-24. Set a lifetime mark on 8-5 of 148.1 at HoP versus this kind. Might be overlooked and should come with a big try at a fair price.
6-Tellmeaboutit (3-1)-Fits better here than with Bulldog and others as was the case in the HoP Pacing Classic. Set a new lifetime mark of 147.4 in the previous HoP start on 8-19 and could be sitting on another big try.

Race 11

2-Odds On Hong Kong (12-1)-Was put away in mid-July and returned to race in August and September on smaller ovals. This Wrenn trainee has only 1 win but has finished 2nd in 9 of 17 starts. Had a race time of 150 back in June here and could spice up what appears to be a chalky sequence.
5-Yourwishisgranted (3-1)-Started from post 11 in last, the 3/5 chalk got on the point and was given too much respect. Did rally some off dull cover but after a 57.1 middle half there was no chance. Will look for a different set-up this time.
8-Big Law (5/2)-Banked over $104k in 2021 but has only 1 win in more starts this year and has earned less than $52k. Faces easier and this could be an opportunity to book an overdue win. Best to respect chances, has faced the toughest competition of any in this field.

Race 12

3-Little Rocket Man (6/5)-Local favorite has burned some money this year and has looked a bit off since being an injured scratch on 9-2. Might have showed some flashes of getting back into the groove with a 53.1 back half and a 25.2 last quarter on 9-23. The three horses who finished ahead are not in this group. May have found a beatable field and should be a tiny price.

Race 13

4-Northern Cadilac (3-1)-Looked like a winner coming through on the rail down the lane but hung the last 1/16th. Drops and gets a new set of hands as Peter Wrenn will be steering. This is the 4th start off the bench and only the 5th race this year. Might be ready for a winning effort in what has been a difficult season.
6-Millennial (12-1)-Looking for a price and this Sweet Lou 5-year-old could offer a nice return. Hawthorne shipper beat #5 there and cashed a check versus Open company in Stickney. Should fit well with this crew, hopefully will fly under the radar, and would use in gimmicks. This 5-year-old has toiled on the fair circuit and in 2022 has taken 9 pictures in 15 starts, so knows how to win.
