Breeders Crown weekend at Woodbine Mohawk Park concludes with a loaded card including six Finals totally $4.5 million in purses. The 0.20 Early Pick 4 begins in Race 4. The sequence includes all BC Finals, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 4
4-Joviality S (6/5)-This 3-year-old is my choice and according to Brian Sears, this is the best 3-year-old trotter he has ever driven. Can win either on the point or coming off cover and can close like a jet plane. Jiggy Jog (2) is a fine filly, and it wouldn't be a shock if she won, but with a fair trip Joviality should be posing.
Race 5
6-Treacherous Dragon (4-1)-The Nancy Takter pupil qualified here in 152.1 and was off for a month before the tune-up. This colt has won 8 of 13 in 2022 and is a perfect 2 for 2 at Mohawk. Looking for a big try with the top post draw.
7-Max Contract (9/2)-Reeled off 4 straight from early July to early August all at the Big M and then slipped a bit but still has a (10-6-0-3) record and the last couple were fine in Lex as well. Hasn't raced since 10-9 but the rest may help and can top this group if dialed on high.
9-Silver Label (8-1)-The post draw gods were not kind but that should add to the price. This Gallucci trainee got some revenge in the last start on 10-15 in beating stablemate #5 in the Sires Stakes Final and has won 8 of 16 at Wbsb.
10-Niki Hill (5/2)-Niki drawing post 10 makes for a more competitive race and is still installed as the program favorite. Dunn should have the pedal down from the word "go" and there will be a battle for early position. Using but looking to others with more value.
Race 6
3-Slay (6-1)-Raced well in the Elim and lost to a trip out winner #4 by a head. Looking for even better tonight. The fractions should be hot and that will help this race set up nicely for this Canadian Trot winner.
5- Branded By Lindy (9/2)-This Cecere trainee was the chalk in the Canadian Trot and broke around the last turn when it looked like he was starting to roll. Last week was parked to the quarter and seemed to be handled cautiously. Followed dull cover, pulled out wide down the lane and the plugs didn't come out until the last 1/16. Charged at the winner #1 but fell a 1/2 length short. Could be a clean trip away from an upset.
Race 7
5-Pebble Beach (8/5)-This Noel Daly pupil is a perfect 4-4 at Wbsb. Equaled a lifetime mark of 148.3 last week and could not make it look any easier. Back on Lasix, drew well, and when he kicks into gear the rest of the field will be chasing this colt down the lane.
