Hoosier Park has a 14-race program ready to begin the weekend. The feature comes in the finale, when 3-year-old colts and geldings battle for a $65,000 purse. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11, and the sequence will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 11
1-A Girl That Twirls (5/2)-This filly can rock and roll in Philly and Delaware plus was Trace Tetrick's choice. But can't be sure if the speed holds up down the long Hoosier stretch. Will respect chances but will look towards the one below as well.
5-Patsville (3-1)-The team De Long pupil did the heavy lifting in last, and it took its toll down the lane. Plus, Sea Silk got the perfect trip, and she was too good to not roll by and take a picture. Tonight, this is the one to beat off its HoP record and is a must use.
Race 12
1-Gabbys C Note (9/5)-Here is a Chris Beaver trainee that has eaned >$375,000 this year which is far more than anyone in the field. But this race isn't on the 5/8's in Ohio. Can't dismiss, has faced tough foes no doubt but won't offer any value. Using but would prefer one of the 2 below.
2-Jusmakinyalook (9/2)-If this filly gets a good steer by Ross and lands in the pocket behind #1 chances for an upset go up.
4-Luv Lorelei (5-1)-Muscle Massive filly usually is in the hunt at the wire when she doesn't break stride. Using and hoping it will be overlooked at the windows. Has trouble at the start and at the end of miles. But even with all the miscues has hit the board in 12 of 19 this year with 4 wins.
Race 13
5-Rockn On Venus (3-1)-Cullipher 4-year-old goes back on Lasix and hasn't been using for quite a while. Was raced aggressively in the last 2, landing on the point both times and faded at this level. Widger makes an appearance, will look for a big try and should be forwardly placed.
6-Sawyer's Desire (6-1)-Corey Kreiser 5-year-old is no stranger to HoP (45-9-6-8). Returns to town after facing tough foes at NFLD and might be overlooked. Should fit nicely and will take a swing for a price.
7-Better Take It (9/2)-Raced only once in October and this will be the 3rd start since 11-4. Comes off a sluggish beginning versus Open 2 kind here but did pace the 2nd half in 53.2. Comes back in sequence for the 3rd time in a row and could be sitting on a big try.
Race 14
1-Ponda Warrior (5/2)-Finally starts inside, the last 4 post draws were 10-8-8-8. De Long will take the lines and should be racing near the top of the stack. Thinking the price will be shorter than the morning line and will be tough to beat if dialed on high.
11-Yourwishisgranted (12-1)-Cooled off last week versus high level foes but did pace the back-half in a sizzling 53.3. Willing to cut some slack, did cash a 5th place check but can't afford to be 19 lengths back at the 1st call. Oosting should be following #2 who has some gate speed. Could have a shot to make some noise if races back to the previous 2 starts and the price will be right.
