NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT RACES:
Del Mar Fifth Race: Post: 2:30 PT
Top Pick: 9-Seal Team (7/2)
Debuting 2-year-old has done some excellent work in the morning for trainer Richard Mandella, and while first-timers from this barn have underperformed of late (to put it mildly), this son of War Front may be able to buck the trend. He appears to be blessed with excellent gate speed, and with a pedigree that screams grass this athletic colt looks very much like a live item under Flavien Prat. At 7/2 on the morning line, he’s a strong win play and rolling exotic single.
Churchill Downs Sixth Race: Post: 5:35 ET
Top Pick: 1-Coach (9/5)
This genuine and consistent filly is undefeated in a pair of one-turn races (her first two career starts, victories by a combined 14 lengths) and this drop back from a series of 10 consecutive route events should allow the daughter of Commissioner to achieve her peak performance. Fast on figures and a stakes winner over the Churchill Downs main track, the Brad Cox-trained filly should have enough early speed to use her rail post to good advantage and then be able exert her superiority when the pressure is tuned on from the quarter pole to the wire. Listed at 9/5 on the morning line, she will offer solid wagering value at that price if you can get it.
