Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race program with a $5,302.98 carryover for the 0.50 Pick 5 that starts in Race 5. Tonight, the sequence has a $15,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 5
3-Elwell (5/2)-Comes off an even effort in a needed start and now drops. Should be ready for a big try at a comfortable level.
5-Windsun Ricky (7/2)-Looking for a top performance at a competitive condition. Has the gate speed to get the top or 2-hole and either could work for a picture.
Race 6
2-Always And Again (9/2)-Just missed after going 1st over and was very game to the wire. Gingras takes the lines from Bartlett who steers the program chalk (4). Looks like a main player but has missed a start.
4-Nandolo N (5/2)-Has won the last 2 times when dropped to this level and raced well in the last 2 races versus better. Best to not overlook, has made a fine living at YR winning 10 out of 25 starts.
5-Priceless Beach (3-1)-Rolled over this kind last week a 2/5 but except for one horse (6) this an entirely different field. Should be battling with the 2 above in a competitive affair.
Race 7
2-Real Lucky N (9-1)-Was off almost 3 weeks before the last start and had little chance from post 8 in a race with soft fractions. This is the 3rd start off a claim for the Blumenfeld barn. Gingras sticks, comes back in sequence, and had back-to-back wins versus this kind in September.
5-Ashton Hill Dave (9/2)-Didn't fare well racing against the $40k claimers but did pace the 2nd half in 55.4 in last and now drops. Won at this class on 9-17 and Kakaley could blast out to race near the top of the stack. Looking for an aggressive steer.
Race 8
2-Brackley Beach (5/2)-Comes off another gutsy effort to post his 3rd straight win. Boyd should work a good trip and be in striking range for another picture.
4-Townline All Good (6-1)-Makes the 1st start for the Laterza barn off a claim and Brennan sticks. Was pace compromised in last, has been trying hard but needs the right trip. Barn has been cold, might be overlooked and has a chance at a solid price.
7-Long Weekend A (20-1)-Raced on the point and in the pocket in the last 2 starts and lost both times by a nose. Has been bet in the previous 2 tries and this post draw will help the price. The 20-1 morning line could be a stretch, has the gate speed to get an up-close seat and will look for an aggressive steer by Buter.
Race 9
1-Pyro (5-1)-Moves up after finishing 4th in the slop from post 7 on 11-15 and should offer an attractive price. Races better near the top of the stack and Dube should land there tonight. Could break through for a picture at this level with a sharp steer.
5-Genuis Man (9/2)-Dropped and won being handled with confidence by Boyd after leaving from the 7-hole. The 5-year-old has the speed to win against this crew and it wouldn't be a surprise if landed on the engine and didn't look back.
