There are five programs left for the 2022 harness season at Hoosier Park and on tap tonight is a 14-race card. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11, and the sequence will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 11
1-Bet Mine (3-1)-Lands in a soft spot but drawing the rail might work against this 4-year-old unless it gets a decent seat when the wings fold. Must be respected and should be a player versus this crew but could be over bet.
3-Whiskey Wizzard (9/2)-Winner of 3 straight and 7 of 32 at HoP will face a bigger challenge. There should be an honest pace and the short field won't hurt chances either.
6-Double Up N (12-1)-Tetrick sticks, comes back in sequence and Lasix may have started to work in the last start. Did come the back-half in 55.4 and this beaten chalk is worth a look.
Race 12
2-Yourwishisgranted (3-1)-This is the 3rd time for Wilfong to steer, drops and this is the best post draw since 10-28. Should race near the top of the stack, might land on the point, and not look back.
5-Ike's Panther (4-1)-Was claimed for $65K on 10-29 and has not been able to cash a large check facing Open 3 company. Drops and Bates takes a seat. That's a positive driver change, and this could be wake-up time.
6-Major Attribute (8-1)-Slow starter tries hard and should fit nicely with this field. The issue is being pace compromised but is worth a swing at this price and there should be honest fractions.
Race 13
2-Like It Like That (15-1)-Makes only the 4th start of the year and comes off a win on 11-19. Has had issues but cashed checks versus stakes company in 2021 and has minded manners so far this season. Will take a swing with a fresh horse when the program chalk is 0-16 in 2022.
6-Ms Quick Sand (7/5)-This should be the time for the 1st picture of the year. But this camera-shy filly is only 3 for 27 lifetime and 0-16 this year. Has faced better and is hard to leave off the ticket. But doesn't like to pass horses down the lane, so a short price is tough to swallow.
Race 14
2-Crooked Smile (10-1)-Didn't fare well against Open 1-2 company but is usually in the mix versus Open 2-3 competition and will hunt for a long shot in this leg. Should be forwardly placed and the price is right to use on top and in gimmicks.
3-Rockin Speed (8-1)-This veteran beat the $50k claimers and was claimed by the Rucker barn. Interesting claim this late in the meet and might be headed to Ohio. But fits well here and could reward connections at first asking.
7-Montana Chief A (5-1)-This Erv Miller trainee connects against Open 2 kind and cashes checks versus straight Open company. Bender should have the pedal down and could get the jump on this field.
