Al Cimaglia: Cal Expo Pick 4 Analysis | Sunday, December 4, 2022

December 4, 2022

Cal Expo concludes the weekend with a 10-race card. The headliner in regard to betting options is the 0.20 Pick 4 that starts in Race 7. The sequence has a $20,000 guaranteed pool with a 16% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

3-Cenalta Flash (6-1)-Tired late in the mile last week in a needed race. Lackey has had a good start to the meet and this filly has more experience on this oval than anyone in the field. Will look for a solid price in a wide-open affair.
5-Winds Of Winter (12-1)-This is another who put in a necessary start last week and now tries Lasix for the 2nd time. Hung in there down the lane in the 1st race since on 9-18 which was at a Fair. Could be sitting on a big try.
7-Ak Up N Attem (4-1)-The Schneider barn keeps rolling along and this 3-year-old comes off a game effort to finish 2nd. Could top this group if Mullet can be within reach of the leaders turning for the wire.
8-Cartiere (9/5)-Won its qualifier by over 5 lengths and should fit well at this level. But at 9/5 doesn't offer any value and this will be the 1st start at CalX.

Race 8

2-Prom Queen (9/5)-This mare has gotten better the last couple of years and will take her in what appears to be a 2-horse race. The 6/5 choice is #3 who has been winning easily but she was bumpy at the start and looked rough last time. The Queen made a power move on the last turn to draw off and she will be my single.

Race 9

1-He Grins Again (7/2)-Plano trainee was used a couple of times in her 1st start of the meet. The veteran bumps up after the win and can come right back with another picture.
6-Terror Of The Nite (6-1)-Willing to fade the morning line chalk #4 who looked very rough on the track and did finish 2nd but the pace backed-up. This grizzled 11-year-old veteran has won 4 in a row dating back to Aces in September. Got an efficient trip last week in the 1st start of the meet. Lackey provided a good steer and did pull away down the lane. Looking for similar tonight.

Race 10

2-Native's Best Bet (5/2)-This 8-year-old is only 2-23 the past 2 years and often will tease you into thinking he is ready to win. The same could happen this time but was locked on the rail until the last turn. Then had to pull 3 wide and rallied down the lane to finish 2nd. Looks like a threat with a smooth journey.
3-Down It (7/2)-Didn't do much versus better in Dayton and comes off a decent qualifier here. Using on the premise this 3-year-old will be better on a larger oval. Qualified at Hoosier in 1.55 on 10-5 and hoping some of that big track speed shows up here.
