Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Early Pick 4 Analysis | Saturday, December 17, 2022

Northfield Park has 13 races scheduled for its Saturday night card. The $1.00 Early Pick 4 has a $13,999 carryover which sparked a $40,000 guaranteed pool. The sequence starts in Race 2, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 2

3-Heerz Hoosierhunny (6/5)-Winner of 2 straight gets the services of Aaron Merriman tonight. The same pilot was in the bike 2 back and posted a sharp win from the 8-hole versus this kind. Should be out and rolling for the top and may not look back.
6-We Are Dreaming (7-1)-Cashed checks versus better in November. Doesn't love to win, 3-32 this year and needs a trip. But the pace could be lively and will add value to the Pick 4 payout. If Myers leaves, he could land a up-close seat.

Race 3

2-Dontmakeafoolofme (4-1)-This race is quite the taffy pull. Horses who hate to win and others that do take pictures but have issues. This mare falls into the latter category. Makes the 3rd start for Clegg, and can come out on top with this post draw if minds manners.
4-Isette Hanover (5/2)-Rosecroft invader was in too tough but raced better at this level in last and now Merriman gets the assignment. May need to have the lead turning for the wire to win, and should offer a small price but it's difficult to leave off the ticket.
6-Mae Be Magic (5-1)-Looks like a handful to drive and Davis Jr was out on top from the word go in last. Looked like a winner at the 1/2 pole and the tank was on low at the 3/4 pole. This will be the 3rd start for Kreiser after a purchase and was off a month before coming to his barn. Went to the 1/2 in 55.4 which wasn't need, can win at a solid price if could be rated.

Race 4

2-St Lads Gidget (2-1)-Led from the start and was tackled near the wire by a 1/5 shot who wouldn't be denied. The big chalk was parked out for about 5/8's of a mile. The last winner isn't in the field and this mare has been sharp. Should land on the point or in the pocket behind the one below.
7-Rockin Requiem (5/2)-Winner of 3 straight has followed the same plan each time and tonight should be no different. Merriman should have the pedal through the floor board and look to make every call a winning one in what looks like a 2-horse affair.

Race 5

4-Rockn Furiosa (4-1)-Made the most of starting from the rail to get the top, then overtook the 4/5 chalk down the lane and held off a late charge by others. Best to not overlook this filly, has posted all 7 lifetime wins this year (16-7-1-2). Davis Jr handled her perfectly in last and could offer a square price.
5-Elvarg Hanover (8/5)-Program favorite is versatile and came out of the clouds to just miss and should relish the company. Wrenn could leave, land on the point and should be tough to catch.
6-Whoyacallinacougar (15-1)-Doesn't have the gate speed of others but if the 3-4-5 get into a speed duel for the lead this team Lake pupil will be rolling hard down the lane. Is pace dependent but is worth a play at this price.
