The Meadowlands has a 14-race card scheduled with the feature going in Race 10, an Open 1 Pace with a $45,000 purse. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 with a $50,000 guaranteed pool plus a low 15% takeout also starts in Race 10, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 10
4-Belmont Royale N (9/2)-Raced for the 1st time on Lasix last week, broke dead last and was in the 2 path until turning for the wire. Then was 5 wide coming down the lane and really kicked into gear the last 1/16th, the connections were probably happy. Looking for a big try here.
5-Burnham Boy N (7/2)-This 7-year-old has made only 13-starts the past 2 years but appears to be rounding into form. This will be a test but Dunn sticks and has sub 1.50 speed. Can compete with this group and hopefully won't be over bet.
7-American Dealer N (6-1)-Should offer a square price and comes off a sharp qualifier here on 3-4 (150.4). This another who hasn't raced often, only 60 lifetime starts. The 6-year-old is from the Toscano barn and had a 149.2 mark at M1 last year. Should be in the hunt if dialed on high, last start was at YR on 2-20.
Race 11
2-Thndrfrmthethron N (8-1)-Liking the driver change to Zeron and has shown the ability to be a player versus this kind. Needs an efficient trip and to be in striking range at the top of the stretch to pop at a nice price.
5-Lone Wolf American (9/2)-Comes off a big try in the International Women's race, was claimed and now Dunn will steer. This 4-year-old was used off the gate and then again around the 5/8's pole to get the lead. Faded down the lane to finish 2nd to a trip out winner coming through on the rail.
6-Springbridge Duel (5-1)-Came off the bench after a 4-month hiatus and finished 3rd. Should be better tonight and the
Jen B barn is starting to heat up, best to respect in a race without a standout.
Race 12
6-Leon David (9/2)-This is a tough race to unscramble. Will lean toward a couple in decent form that are bumping up in class and they should offer some value. Leon has won 6 of 36 at M1 and has shown some life in the last 2 starts. Mark MacDonald is in the bike and he has been behind this Saunders entry before.
7-Dealer's Table (5-1)-Easily downed a softer field last week and is Dunn's choice over #9 who is dropping. Swinging for a solid price and hoping the upswing continues.
Race 13
7-Marcus Seelster (8/5)-The 7-year-old got on the engine and didn't look back last week. That was the 1st start for the Stafford barn and set a new lifetime mark. It looks like a 2-horse race and this is one of the main players.
8-Denmark Seelster (7/5)-Here is the other 1st leg winner and the profile is similar. Took charge early and sped home in a new lifetime mark of 151.1 which was 4/5's of a second faster than #7. This will be the 2nd start for the Engblom barn and should be battling the one above down the lane.
