Hoosier Park has a 14-race program scheduled, and the 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 11
5-Dixie Dream (5-1)-Broke her maiden on 5-4 when used off the gate from post 8. Did land on the point for much of the mile and then reclaimed the lead down the lane. Has missed a start and the last race was the 1st win on Lasix. Could double up if 100%.
7-Little Jolena (20-1)-Doesn't win often but with a smooth trip could be in the mix at the wire. Willing to overlook the last start when parked the mile. Should be a player if races back to the previous two starts and is worth a play at the morning line price.
10-Madsions Angel (3-1)-The rail horse and or #2 may leave and that could get the team Putnam sophomore into a close-up seat. Has the speed to win but needs a trip and could be forwardly placed to roll by down the lane.
Race 12
1-Bryce's Lady (4-1)-Was no match for #8 last week but started from post 7 and did finish the mile willingly after coming 1st over. This mare could be helped by starting from the rail and might be racing near the top of the stack this week.
6-Juxta Cowgirl (3-1)-The Hochstetler barn is posting 30% winners over the last 30 days. Will take a swing this veteran fires hot off the bench after showing good speed in a qualifier.
8-Marla's Got Legs (7/2)-The post helps the price and not sure how much starting outside will hurt this mare who goes for 2 straight. Had the rail last week and came away 4th, used a big brush around the 5/8's pole to take command and didn't look back.
Race 13
1-Uncut Gem (3-1)-Raced well after shipping in from MVR, and did close in .56 but could only manage a 3rd place check as the odds-on choice. The half probably won't go in a tepid 57.1 and De Long could get a pocket ride behind the one below.
2-Morning Sunrise (5/2)-Drops to the level of its last win on 4-20. Could get the lead without having to go 55.2 and looks like the one to beat with a good steer.
Race 14
2-Ponda Executive (3-1)-This 3-year-old makes his 1st lifetime start after coming off 2 decent qualifiers. Paced the back half in 56.2 on its own in the 5-4 qualifier at HoP. Could be there at the wire if dialed on high for its debut.
3-Rockinforreal (7/2)-This will be the 5th start on Lasix, and so far, it hasn't made much of a difference. But last week did come the back half in 56.3 and that was an improvement. Wilfong should get the 3-year-old in striking range and look to rally down the lane.
4-Riggins Time (6-1)-This will be the 3rd start on Lasix and has a similar profile to the one above. After a couple of starts it could be time for an aggressive steer off the gate and may benefit from a cozy trip.
5-Speedy Rocks (12-1)-Started from the 2nd tier and the pace was slow, the half went in 57.4 and will toss that race. Could do better in the 2nd start since arriving from MVR. Tetrick also gets the assignment and that shouldn't hurt, the price shot could surprise.
