Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Late Pick 4 Analysis | Sunday, May 21, 2023

Northfield Park has a 15-race program ready to begin the week. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a low 14% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11

5-FG's Mondu Packrat (5/2)-Stepped up last week and its 3-race win streak was snapped. Drops to a comfortable spot, Merriman will work a better trip this time, and looks like a main player.
6-Bambino Joe (3-1)-This 8-year-old has become camera shy the past 2 years but gets class and post relief here. There should be an honest pace and Lems is a new set of hands. Could stalk and roll by down the lane at a fair price.

Race 12

3-Word Out (7/2)-Draws inside of other players and now is at the right condition to win. Facing the $10K claimers at MVR didn't work but has won here the last 2 times in at NW1500L4.
6-Solarctic (4-1)-Pulled well before the 1/2-mile pole, was hung the rest of the mile, and finished 3rd last week. That was an aggressive drive on a 14-1 shot from post 7. Will look for a smoother journey and a better finish tonight.
9-Twin B Frenchtoast (9/2)-Will probably try to follow #2 off the gate, the 10-year-old can show good gate speed at times. Needs a trip but Merriman can work some magic from the 2nd tier, and this is the level for a picture to happen.

Race 13

1-Flash Gordon (5/2)-Merriman steers for his father Lanny, which isn't an automatic. The Yankee Cruiser 5-year-old should be a main player at this class. Has enough gate speed to protect the rail and should race near the top of the stack throughout.
9-Full Moon Beach (4-1)-Has posted 9 wins in 35 starts at Nfld and could get a good seat following the one above off the gate. The Bendis entry should enjoy the company and may finally take its 1st picture of 2023 (8-0-1-2).

Race 14

5-Zanetti (9/2)-Will need a sharp steer to get the job done at this level but does try hard and this isn't the deepest of fields. Sugg could work a 2nd over trip and surprise at a square price.
7-Elliot Moose (7/2)-Raced well in last and really could not do more than finish second with the inside trip. Has good gate speed and Merriman might be more aggressive when the wings fold, so best to respect. The question is whether Elliot can win without having the lead at the head of the stretch.
