Yonkers Raceway has a 12-race card featuring elimination races for the Park MGM Filly Pace and the MGM Yonkers Trot. Comments and selections below are on the four eliminations. The weather forecast calls for a rainy night and my handicapping is based on an off-track.
Race 1-Park MGM Filly Pace Elimination (7:00 EST PM)
1-Earthwindfire (3/2)-This is a top filly trained by Brett Pelling and thrives on half-mile ovals. Tetrick takes the lines and looks the part of 3/2 favorite leaving from the rail.
5-Alexa's Fantasy (4-1)-May not be able to leave fast enough to land in the pocket. But Bartlett should work a good trip from here and could cash a 2nd place check if the journey is smooth.
2-Silky Stride (5-1)-This gal is in good form and now tackles some tougher foes. Stratton can hit the board with a well-timed move at a big price. Willing to use underneath in gimmicks.
Race 2-Park MGM Filly Pace Elimination (7:20 EST PM)
2-Turn On The Charm (3-1)-Short track specialist shouldn't have an issues with the turns. Raced here on 8-2-22, left quickly and tired late in the mile which had very quick fractions. Might be overlooked tonight and could be on top or in the 2-hole by the first turn.
3-Vivians Dream (9/5)-Morning line chalk raced with Fan Hanover fillies at Mohawk without much success but should be a main player here. Raced once at YR, finished second, and should get good early position once the wings fold.
1-Ucandoit Blue Chip (2-1)-Toscano pupil is no slouch banking over $330K in 12 starts but doesn't have the smaller oval experience of the 2 above. Probably will be bet hard anyway and can be there at the wire if the turns aren't an issue.
Race 6-MGM Yonkers Trot Elimination (8:40 PM EST)
6-Chapercraze (5-1)-Will look for a price as this Burke trainee should be leaving hard off the gate and has shown improvement since changing barns 2 races back. Could win if Gingras lands on the point without trouble and isn't challenged early on. That might be the case in this Elimination.
3-Crown (2-1)-Melander trainee is the program chalk as it should be and is a perfect 1 for 1 on this oval. This is the 3rd start off the bench and not sure if we see big gate speed early on. Should have no issues qualifying, and it wouldn't be a surprise if it was picture time.
4-Up Your Deo (5/2)-Is only 1-10 lifetime but has performed well in both starts this year at M1. This will be the 1st try on a half-mile track. Team Svanstedt deserves respect but will use underneath and could raise my opinion for next week after a start on this oval.
Race 7-MGM Yonkers Trot Elimination (9:00 PM EST)
4-Kenobi (9/2)-Should be a solid price and doesn't have the bankroll of others but does have the gate speed to land in a close-up seat. Not sure if it can out leave the one below but should be in striking range turning for the wire either way.
1-Kierkegaard K (2-1)-The Svanstedt barn is batting 38% over the last 30 days and this very nice colt has easily won his first two starts off the bench. But this isn't Vernon Downs, has limited small oval experience, and shows only 1 start from the rail. Still could win but would rather use underneath in its Yonkers debut.
7-Ari Ferrari J (5/2)-This is another nice colt and from a an inside post my opinion would be different. My guess Dunn doesn't abuse this sophomore by blasting out. He could look to provide a smooth trip, qualify, and hit the ticket by rallying off cover.
