Northfield Park begins the week with a huge 17-race card. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a low 14% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11

3-Heerz Popeye (4-1)-Has the gate speed to land on the point or in the pocket. That qualifies the freshman as a player in this race.
4-Rose Run Zoar (7/2)-There are issues passing foes down the lane. But now, is in a spot to race at the top of the stack and can benefit from an efficient trip.
5-Well That's Marky (2-1)-Beaten even money chalk has been in the hunt but couldn't close the deal. Dan Noble steers for the 2nd straight time and did roll late with a 26.4 last quarter but was pace compromised. Could be driven more aggresively and be closer to the leaders turning for the wire.

Race 12

4-Don'tfeardon'ttell (4-1)-Nice try here from the 2nd tier on 8-7 to miss by only a length. Camera shy 3-year-old should have no trouble landing on top or close to it tonight. Has only 1 picture in 8 races at Nfld but has hit the board 5 times and may have met a beatable field.
5-Corona Era (9-1)-Draws well, gets a positive driver change in Chris Page, and should fit with this kind. Looking for a big try in the 3rd start off a sick scratch and price should be right to take a swing.
9-Odds On Hong Kong (3-1)-Comes off a game win and best to respect even from the 2nd tier. The start is key but if within reach of the leaders down the lane it could be picture time.

Race 13

2-Abitofbettors Buns (5/2)-Has been better since getting on the smaller oval at ScD and will take a leap the turns won't be an issue here. Merriman should have this 2-year-old on his toes and hopefully won't be over bet.
4-Dragon You Along (2-1)-It looks like the race will go through the Ben Davis pupil but is another making his Nfld debut. Has been used off the gate and in the last 2 starts, came a close 2nd and took a picture on 8-5. Should be tough with a good steer.

Race 14

2-Kandy Sweet (4-1)-Billy Davis Jr is at the controls again. Made a rare break at the start and lost all chance in last. Going to use 2 droppers in this leg. Not that comfortable seeing they could be bet down but this isn't a salty group.
9-Setit And Forgetit (2-1)-This is a tricky spot in a race without much form. Recent starts have been dull but does drop to a spot to shine. Aaron Merriman will have to work his magic as the inside horses don't have much gate speed. But if close enough around the 3/4's pole this veteran likes to win. Its Northfield record is strong (81-18-17-7).
