Rosecroft Raceway concludes this weekend with the finals of the Maryland Sires Stakes. In races one through four, Maryland's finest two-year-old pacers and trotters will compete for top honors.
At the Meadowlands last night the winners came from one of my top three selections in six of eight stakes. But only in Race 3 and Race 9 my top pick finished first. In Race 3, the great mare Hannelore Hanover trotted past Emoticon Hanover in the stretch like she was standing still and stopped the timer in 1:52.3. With that win Hannelore Hanover has likely locked up Horse of the Year honors.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 1
3-Miss Choptank-Rates a slight edge as this filly appears more versatile and that won't hurt.
4-Princess Rusty-From this post can threaten, Roberts should keep in striking range at a square price.
2-HS Shauna-12 of 13 in the money, likes the lead, but may need a soft quarter to last to the wire.
Race 2
2-Gaagaa Gone-Winner of 8 out of 9 looks too good for this field, only a clean trip from a nice paycheck.
5-Dancing Spirit-Looks to have a good shot at 2nd place money, comes off a maiden win.
7-TV Sensation-This gal shows some heart, if she can find a good early seat could hit the board.
Race 3
3-I Run This Show-Cruised home in 1:53.4 in last and will string along, looks like a major player.
6-Bo Breeze-Callahan will need a good steer and if so could make some noise at a nice price.
8-Allie's Finale-Comes off a sick scratch and stuck outside otherwise is probably best horse in the field.
Race 4
5-What That Is-6/5 morning line chalk looks the part and should get a good trip from this post.
2-No Drama De Vie-Knock is inexperience, has made only 3 starts. But won last by 18, so best to consider.
8-Judge Bob-Has gate speed, can leave and if finds a good seat could add some pop to the gimmicks.
