Hawthorne Racecourse has a 13-race card with the 0.50 Late Pick 4 starting in Race 10. The sequence has a $15,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 10 (10:10 PM CST)

3-Perlucky (9/2)-Ships in from Aces and lands in the Eaton barn which has been clicking. This veteran had been winning and cashing checks versus tougher foes. Best to not overlook, has hit the board in 4 of 5 Haw starts and has taken 2 pictures.
7-Annas Lucky Start (25-1)-This 9-year-old mare doesn't win as often but could be heard from with a smooth trip even against this group of boys. Should be in the mix if Wilfong can find a live cover flow.
9-Big Christian (4-1)-This is probably the best horse in the race and will make his Haw debut. Willing to toss the last start with an interference break at HoP. Has been facing much better than this. The question marks are if Stewart can work a good trip from this post and if the 4-year-old needs a race on this surface. But is well worth a swing as long as not bet too hard.

Race 11 (10:30 PM CST)

2-Justa Hintof Spice (7/2)-Hoosier shipper hasn't raced since 7-8. Put in a decent qualifier in Stickney on 9-23 and has won 3 of 6 races on this oval. Should be a player but is only 1 for 19 this year. Hopefully the camera-shy mare won't be over bet.
3-Swan Of Dreams (15-1)-Dropped to this level and was hung the mile. Warren returns for the 2nd straight drive and the trip should be a lot better.
6-La Lolita (10-1)-Got on the engine into a quick half versus this kind. Faded to finish 2nd and tries Lasix for the 2nd time tonight. Does need to mind manners and to get a smooth trip but the price is right to take a swing.
7-Goomster (5/2)-This sophomore has down well against Illinois breds in its age group. Faces some older foes and will use. Team Seekman entry likes to win and has taken 13 pictures in 23 starts.

Race 12 (10:50 PM CST)

1-Fox Valley Patriot (5/2)-Three-year-old Illinois bred is on a 2-race win streak but now faces older. Willing to take a swing as current form is too good to ignore.
2-Rush To Judgement (6-1)-Steps-up after winning with a 56.3 back half. Bates gets tonight's assignment and that shouldn't hurt. Could be up to the promotion, should offer a solid price and has won 4 of 10 races here.

Race 13 (11:10 PM CST)

2-Skeeter Machine (9/2)-Had a good try in the 1st start of the meet, was driven aggressively and got on the point to finish a close 2nd. Will string along after a sharp try. Seekman sticks and could win at a square price if moves forward a bit.
6-Ideal's Nicole (5-1)-Veteran mare comes off an efficient trip for a win. Bates takes the lines, should be forwardly placed and could double up.
