The Sunday night feature at Rosecroft Raceway is in Race 8, an open handicap with a $10,000 purse and it will be my focus.
Driver Jason Green had the hottest hands last night bringing home three winners. Green also steered the longshot winner on the card in Race 9 when Credit Blues crossed the wire first and paid $23.40. Conditioner Joseph Offutt had the best night amongst trainers with two trips to the winner's circle.
At Cal Expo on Friday my Pick 4 ticket connected but the winning combination came up very chalky. The 2-4-6-1 paid $20.10 on a 0.20 bet. The small payout did not cover the $28.80 ticket cost. Unfortunately, in the last leg my longshot selection #8- Real Buzz went off at 25-1 but could only manage to get up for third place money.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 8-Open Handicap
1-Diamondkeeper (6-1)-Last off a layoff at 76-1 wasn't bad. Will consider as part of the ticket.
2-Jus Like A Virgin (10-1)-Stepped up to this level in last and looks like an outsider again.
3-Jeremes General (8-1)-Efforts in Open Company have not been good enough to consider as a threat to win.
4-Abelard Hanover (5-1)-Steps up after a nice win but not sure same will happen at this level.
5-Hickory Aloha (9/2)-Got on the engine and faded late, will respect chances for a top three finish tonight.
6-Rock N Roll Jet (6-1)-Last was very good at DD and if gets the trip can make some noise at a square price.
7-Rocktavius (4-1)-Has proven to be a threat from the outside and no reason to buck that trend.
8-Kiss A Dragon (5/2)-Likes to compete and has shown the guts to come from way back at this level, major player.
My key will be the 6-Rock N Roll Jet, to use up and down in exactas with the 1,4,5,7,8 with larger wagers using #7 and #8. Last Sunday, a horse picked on top went off at close to 50-1 at Rosecroft and returned $26 to place. It usually pays to watch the odds as the race approaches so if necessary, bet size can be adjusted. This is especially true when the pools are smaller. Last week it turned out to be an opportunity to get a nice return on a place bet.
