Hawthorne Racecourse has a 15-race card with the 0.50 Late Pick 4 starting in Race 10. The sequence has a $15,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 10
1-Somestarsandi (7-1)-Willing to stretch out and look for some value in a 2-year-old filly race. The David Brooks pupil has been facing better and tried to go gate to wire last time but faded down the lane. Should relish the company and gets a positive driver change in Wilfong.
3-Drinking And Dream (4-1)-Has hit the board in 2 of 3 in Stickney with one picture. Get a ++ driver change in Leonard and should be driven aggressively.
9-Read Btwn The Lies (7/2)-Winner of 3 straight and has an umblemished record this meet. This is a bigger test but has a nose for the wire (7-4-0-0). There could be a lively pace and that should help chances.
10-First Of Her Name (3-1)-From the inside this Willis trainee would be a heavy favorite. Came the back half versus better in .56 to win by almost 5 lengths leaving from the 7-hole. Seekman needs a sharp steer with this post draw but should be a player and can roll by down the lane.
Race 11
4-Sonic Flare (3/2)-The veteran is 1-27 this year but has hit the board 9 times. At the bottom class, a 3/2 price can be tough to swallow but should be a clean trip away from a picture. Expecting for Bates to get on the point off the gate and look to wire the field.
Race 12
2-Tookadiveoffdipper (5/2)-Takes a good drop in what will be the 3rd start of the meet. Doesn't have his best fastball anymore but should be right there at the wire if dialed on high.
5-King Of Aces (7-1)-The 3-year-old drew off in his Haw debut and this field isn't out of reach. Did miss a start but Wilfong sticks and should be forwardly placed throughout.
8-Rockin Medicine (9-1)-Made its 1st start since July of 2021 in the slop on 10-13. Went off at 35-1, raced wide and came 3rd. May need another start or 2 but will use at a solid price as this isn't a deep field.
Race 13
4-Bet Mine (8/5)-This 5-year-old has turned camera shy this year and has missed some races. Just missed another start but takes a significant drop and has won 7 of 13 here. This might be a wake-up call and will respect chances but not a candidate to single.
5-RJ Rocks (5-1)-Roth trainee had a 151.4 mark at HoP in 2022 and equaled it last week. That was his 1st start at Haw this year and now steps up but fits with this bunch. This is a player if equals his previous mile and could be better tonight.
