December 8: Cal Expo Picks + Analysis

by Al Cimaglia

December 8, 2017

The highlight of Friday night's Cal Expo card is the 0.20 Pick 4 sequence which rolls in Race 8 and has a $30,000 guaranteed pool. The feature is in Race 5, an Open Pace with post positions drawn in groups having a $6,600 purse. The Pick 4 has a 16% takeout and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 8
4-Cenalta Artistry-Raced in Open class after a win and was good off a tough trip. Drops and will use at 9/2 in the ML.
5-Windsun T Bird-10 yr-old is still dangerous with the right trip. Short priced favorite is in the hunt but not a lock.
6-Coastal Treasure-Fits and should be tighter, will also need a smooth journey and could pop at a square price.

Race 9
1-FF Bigshow-The 8-1 programs odds are too good to pass up. Siegel can work a trip in a wide-open race.
2-Baylor Out-Sizzled in last and the 1:52.2 was night's fastest, steps up but likes to win and may handle the hike.
4-Mint To Cruise-Could get a seat behind #2 and Plano could look to use one big brush to sweep by.
6-Cowboy Mathis-Roland steers and trains, fits better versus this field. 8-time winner could be set for a big try.
8-Hi Ho's Little Rev-Price shot comes off a good effort and can grind way into striking position and surprise.

Race 10
2-Fire Dance-Won at this level then stepped up and had a tough trip. Fits better here and will use at 8-1 in the ML.
3-Sweet One-Wiseman's choice over #6 drops to a good spot to shine.
8-Directing Traffic-Lackey's back to drive and if the pace is hot this mare can roll late.

Race 11
1-PL Jalapeno-Drops after racing the last 1/2 in 56.1, looks like a major player to pick-up an overdue win.
3-Chief Saratoga-13-time winner in '17 drops, makes 2nd start on Lasix and at CalX. Now Roland steers, will respect.

0.20 Pick 4
4,5,6/1,2,4,6,8/2,3,8/1,3
Total Bet=$18
