Cal Expo has a 9-race card with the 0.20 Pick 4 starting in Race 6. The sequence has a $20,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 6
1-Regil Irish (5-1)-This is a leg to look for a price, so will fade the 2-1 program chalk #6 Daniel's Son. Irish had 2 even efforts here but has a chance for a suck-around trip. Looking for better in the 3rd start off the bench for the Pacheco barn.
3-Sweet Timber (12-)-Comes off a strong qualifier winning by almost 9 lengths. Lackey should have the 3-year-old racing near the top of the stack. Could be a player if takes to the surface in its CalX debut.
5-All About Time (15-1)-Took a picture in a nice effort in the 1st start here on Nov 17. Stepped up to this level and raced evenly. Cutting sticks with #6 so gets a new set of hands in Roland and could be driven aggressively when the wings fold.
8-Go Viral (7/2)-Went off at 4/5, left to get the top in last and faded down the lane to finish 2nd by a length. Fits with this crew and Plano might be looking to get on the engine. Could be tough to tackle if lands on the point without using much gas in his 3rd start since 8-29.
Race 7
6-Hoo Nien A (6-1)-Was used hard to get the top last week and then faded to finish 4th. That was the first time for James Kennedy between the pipes and will look for a different type of trip. Probably better coming off cover and may have met a beatable field.
8-A Major Omen (7/2)-Longo trainee raced from the back in a needed a start last week. This will be the 3rd race since 10-29 and will look for a more determined effort from the veteran.
Race 8
3-Princessofthedawn (8/5)-Program chalk lands in a cushy spot. It should be all systems go in the 2nd start here and only the 2nd race since 8-26.
4-City By The Bay (5/2)-Fits here, showed the same coming off cover and winning at this class on 11-17. Got a nice drive and made it look easy last time with this kind. Should be a threat.
Race 9
1-Cut A Rug (7/2)-Went off at 5/2 in last and might be over bet after being trapped on the rail. Should get a better trip, does know how to win although camera shy this year.
3-Sin Machqueen (5/2)-Came off the bench in good form upon arriving at CalX. Had a 2nd place finish and beat this kind last week. Has won 8 of 28 at CalX and should be a main player again.
