Yonkers Raceway has an 11-race card to begin the week. The 0.50 Pick 5 rolls in Race 5, it has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 8, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 8 (9:20 PM EST)
3-Hemsworth N 4-1-Went gate to wire in 151.3 in last and that was a very sharp effort. Steps up to face some tough customers and has missed a start. It's still best to not overlook as the Bako barn has been clicking. Does have the gate speed to land on the point again and play catch me if you can.
5-Hellabalou 2-1-Simply put, this Burke trainee is a winning machine. Is looking for his 3rd straight and that would be the 6th win out of 7 races. He’s the boss at this class until someone can take him down.
6-Covered Bridge 9/2-Has missed a start but did come 2nd to Hellabalou back on Nov 13 starting from post 8. The shorter field tonight could make a big difference. If there is a speed duel between the 2 above, Stratton will be closer to the leaders at the 3/4's pole and could tackle them down the stretch.
Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)
1-Rockin Jukebox 7/2-Faded down the lane after leaving from the rail on Nov 20th. The Jenn B barn has cooled off, but the 6-year-old only lost by <1 length. Joe Bongiorno should have the pedal down protecting position. The price could be better than the program odds and doesn’t feel right to leave off the ticket from the rail in a tough race.
5-Deetzy 5-1-Won the last in the slop with Gingras in the bike and the veteran has had a great year. Its best method is leaving and taking control early. Hasn’t done that with Holland steering but if that changes it could be picture time again at a square price.
6-Jahan Hanover 5-1-This Engblom trainee has been a bit dull, but Bartlett returns tonight. There is gate speed inside and the fractions could be hot. With the right trip this veteran could catch the speed down the lane at a handsome price.
Race 10 (10:00 PM EST)
2-Full Support (3-1)-Comes off an impressive gate to wire score drawing off by over 6 lengths at this class on Nov 27. Comes back versus the same kind and can't see the 3-1 morning line holding up. Was bet down to 4/5 in last and could see similar happening here with the same result.
Race 11 (10:20 PM EST)
3-Louie The Horse N (9/5)-Comes off a win at Philly versus cheaper and doesn't take many pictures these days. Will include with a suspect field, but the price will be short and not a lock. Yonkers record isn't great, only 2 for 15.
4-Purple Poet (4-1)-Cashed some checks at MR with the trainer driving. Comes back and lands at a level where the 7-year-old should be in the hunt. Stratton takes a seat, that won't hurt and should be a better price than the 2 program chalks (2/3).
