If the fields remain intact for opening day at Oaklawn Park this Friday, there will be 14,400 possible combinations for the Late Pick 4 wager. All four races, including the featured $150,000 Advent Stakes for 2-year-olds, drew double-digit entries.
OP 7th race (4:18 P.M. EST) -- MY FRIEND AMY rallied for five allowance victories and three seconds in her last 15 starts at various distances. Prior to her victory at Delta Downs last out, her previous four races produced five black-type runners and three allowance winners. FASHION RAGE beat MY FRIEND AMY when they last met in June. She ran third off a 3-1/2-month layoff last out, bumping twice with inner rivals while chasing pace controller Altered Shot, a $500k earner who won 4 of her last 8 on the main track. YOU LITTLE VIXEN was visually impressive in a wire-to-wire debut romp at Prairie Meadows. She was no match in a follow-up 6-1/2F allowance at Keeneland that featured Grade 2-placed Accede and two next-out allowance winners with 88 and 86 Beyers, respectively.
OP 8th race (4:46 P.M. EST) -- Eight of the 10 entrants can nearly double their six-figure bankroll with a victory in this $140,000 6F allowance. They last raced at eight different tracks, with four looking for repeat victories. Hit the ‘ALL’ button in the second leg of the Pick 4.
OP 9th race (5:14 P.M. EST) -- VALENTINE CANDY drifted 4-wide at the top of the stretch and edged next-out stakes winner Patriot Spirit for third in the $200,000 Bowman Mill Stakes at Keeneland. She finished behind unbeaten multiple stakes winner Glengarry (3-3, $177k) and razor sharp Normandy Hero. MOLLY’S TOWN raced inside and survived a three-way duel for the lead before a trio of longshots passed by in the stretch in the $250,000 Ed Brown Stakes at Churchill Downs. She demolished Indiana-bred rivals for four wins by a combined 24 lengths to start her career and is a big threat on the cutback in distance in the $150,000 Advent Stakes.
OP 10th race (5:40 P.M. EST) -- IN GOOD TASTE took back after an early stumble, rallied between rivals on the turn, awaited room at the top of the stretch and hit her best stride too late when angled out at the eighth pole. She will be undervalued considering the 6F race produced 7/0-0-1 follow-up performances, but she remains dangerous because trainer Brad Cox excels with second-out starters. CATALYST, a $525,000 sales buy and daughter of 2018 Horse of the Year Gun Runner, debuts for Asmussen off a :48.2 gate work over the track. Her dam, Tamboz, produced several graded stakes-placed runners.
