Al Cimaglia: Meadowlands Early Pick 4 Analysis | Saturday, January 6, 2024

January 6, 2024

The Meadowlands has a 14-race card to wrap-up the weekend's racing. The 0.50 Early Pick 4 starts in Race 6. The sequence has
a $50,000 guaranteed pool with a 15% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6 (8:25 PM EST)

1-My Pal Joe (6-1)-Replay watchers will bet this one down, plus David Miller gets the call tonight. But should get a better trip and have some options leaving from the rail. Figures to be a player and hopefully will still be a fair price.
5-Stone Hanover (2-1)-Andrew McCarthy gets the assignment for Linda Toscano, that's the good news, but has missed a start. Will trust the connections that the veteran will be dialed on high. Does have enough gate speed to be put in play when the wings fold.
6-Ideal Feeling (6-1)-This 9-year-old makes the 2nd start for the Megan Scran barn. Does good work at M1 (27-5-6-1) and gets a positive driver's change with Jason Bartlett. Looking for a big try and should be forwardly placed throughout.

Race 7 (8:50 PM EST)

2-C-Bet Hanover (4-1)-Drops and George Brennan is in the bike, and he won't be 11 lengths back at the first call. This looks like a drop and pop opportunity off an efficient trip.
6-Undrthsouthrnsun N (3-1)-Has missed more than 4 weeks but qualified in a snappy 152.0 and this another AMac-Toscano combo. My take is this one will be ready and should be a main player.
8-Double Metal (5-1)-This will be the 2nd start for the Scran barn. Comes off a sharp try and almost wired the field just missing by a head. Now gets Bartlett between the pipes in its 3rd Big M start and looks ready for a picture.

Race 8 (9:15 PM EST)

1-All Alone (8-1)-Had the 7 and 9 holes in both recent starts at this class. Recent form is sharp and the Engblom pupil gets an inside draw with Bartlett doing the steering. Not sure the morning line price holds up but looks like a must use regardless.
6-Venturesome Arden N (9/2)-This 5-year-old comes back at the same level as its last race, which was a win. That score was on 12-30, left from the 9-hole and drew off at 21-1. Not sure how good this New Zealand shipper is, and best to not overlook at this price after winning both starts in the States.

Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)

1-Oakwood Paddy IR (9/2)-In good form and appears to fit but this will the first-time racing on this surface. Should be fast enough if takes to the oval and could have an advantage drawing the rail. Has enough gate speed to get a way at the top of the stack and get an efficient trip.
6-Always Be Sweet (6-1)-Comes off an even effort versus this kind but this time comes back in sequence and can be a fair price. Should be able to find a live cover flow and be in the hunt at the wire.
