Rosecroft Raceway will put on a 13-race card tonight with the feature coming in Race 8, an Open Handicap Pace with a $10,000 purse. That race is handicapped below, and my betting plan is discussed.
At the Big M on Saturday night the track was rated "Good" after snow hit the area. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 was bolstered by a $48 horse in the second leg and the (3-3-10-5) combination paid a hefty $2,300.90. Driver Yannick Gingras handled the off-track nicely and was credited with three winners.
Last night at Rosecroft, Art Stafford Jr. was the driver with the hottest hands bringing home four winners. Trainer Brian Malone led conditioners with two trips to the winner's circle.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 8-Open Handicap
1-Sams Triple Crown (7-1)-Gaps in races, been off 3 weeks, steps up and faces older, looks like an outsider.
2-Jus' Like A Virgin (12-1)-Comes off 2 dull efforts at this class and could be overmatched at this level.
3-Hickory Aloha (8-1)-Stung in a 26.2 opening quarter and faded, that's been an issue. Better post, so may hit board.
4-White Rolls (6-1)-Racing well but faces tougher and has had trouble versus this type.
5-Abelard Hanover (7-1)-Lots of miles on this 9 yr-old and had a tough start like #3, but will consider underneath.
6-Rock N' Roll Jet (9/2)-Got 10-1 last week, won't happen again but will key, won being parked to 27.2 3rd panel.
7-Kiss A Dragon (7/2)-Moves inside one spot and that could make a difference, major player tonight.
8-Roctavius (5/2)-Game effort in last and will respect chances to be on the ticket. But like others better in top slot.
My main choice is #6-Rock N' Roll Jet, but I will also use the #7-Kiss A Dragon in the top slot. I will box those two and use them in an exacta over the #8. In smaller wagers I will key the 6,8 in exactas over the 3,4,5. I will also make a win bet on Rock N' Roll Jet if his odds are at least 3-1.
It is best to watch the betting action at Rosecroft closely, and adjust accordingly. At times there is very good value in the gimmicks. That was the case last week when the exacta with Rock N' Roll Jet over Roctavius, who was 9/5, paid a healthy $101.
