Cal Expo has a 9-race card with the 0.20 Pick 4 starting in Race 6. The sequence has a $25,000 guaranteed pool with a 16% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6 (8:25 PM PST)

3-Give Me This Dance (5/2)-Took the long way around on 1-7 and finished 5th versus easier. Willing to excuse the 3-wide trip and has won at this level on 11-24 and 12-3 plus finished 2nd on 12-23. Could get on the point or race off cover and should be a threat either way.
4-Graceful Horizon (7/2)-Beat this kind coming off cover and rolled home in .27 flat. Now Nick Roland steers his own and looks like a main player.
8-Starzznstripes (6-1)-Took a picture at this class on 12-15, and then faded down the lane on 12-29. This time Jacob Cutting does the steering and the driver change could make a winning difference. Tuned up with a sharp qualifier on 1-7 and is worth using at the morning line odds.

Race 7 (8:45 PM PST)

3-Fox Valley Sidecar (9/2)-Got on the engine and won at this level over a sloppy track. Came back against the same kind and had a bumpy trip from the 8-hole. Cutting sticks and with this post draw may go back to the previous game plan and make every call a winning one.
8-Go Viral (5-1)-There are many in this field who are camera shy. But this 4-year-old has a couple of angles that may help. Gets a positive driver change in Lemoyne Svendsen and uses Lasix for the 2nd time. Closed in 58.1 in last and will look for better here.
9-Illseeifican (3-1)-Used this 6-year-old in its 1st lifetime start and then got off him, which was a mistake. Won't be 11-1 but should offer a fair price from the 9-hole. Looks like a player as long as James Kennedy has in striking range at the top of the lane.

Race 8 (9:05 PM PST)

5-Rockinscience (4-1)-This should be a competitive affair and will stay away from the 2 program chalks #2 and #4. Going to use conditioner Darryl Cutting's entries. This 4-yr-old beat most of this field last time, is steered by the talented son of the trainer, and is in for an $8k tag again.
6-Kamara (5-1)-Luke Plano drives the other Cutting entry. The 5-year-old got on the point from the rail and faded to finish 2nd by less than a length. That race went in a quick 153.3. Could land a close-up seat and might be overlooked at the windows.

Race 9 (9:25 PM PST)

4-Pecorino (12-1)-Is 1-36 but has been racing well considering drawing the 8-hole 3 back, and the 9-hole in the last 2. Has enough gate speed to race near the top of the stack and could get sucked around at a large price.
5-Prodigal (9/5)-Has raced only twice since the start of 2023 and has won once. The victory took place versus this kind and the 13-year-old did it convincingly, thus the 9/5 favoritism. Should win if comes back with the same effort as on 12-30 but can't fully trust.
7-Cenalta Firedragon (3-1)-Plano steers his own this time, and he knows the veteran well. This pilot will likely leave and get a good early seat. Finished nicely in last and will look for a big move down the lane tonight.
