Northfield Park has a 15-race card with the $1.00 Late Pick 4 starting in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11 (9:40 PM EST)

3-My Red Sea (6/5)-Winner of 2 straight drops in for a tag and won't blush at this field. Should be forwardly placed off the gate. My concern is the last 2 have been on an off track and that was an edge. May not have that advantage here but should be a main player.
6-Ginger Tree Lena (9-1)-Will toss the last start in the slop. Merriman sticks and will look for a smoother trip. My take is an aggressive steer is coming and should land in a close-up seat. Well worth a swing at anything close to the morning line.

Race 12 (10:02 PM EST)

1-Shad (7/2)-This is a real taffy pull and not much form to read. Having Merriman on the rail horse usually matters and it might mean more in this situation. Should be in the mix as long as doesn't need the start.
6-Devious Dame (20-1)-Has enough gate speed to land in a good seat off the gate. A dry track could make a winning difference.
7-Jumping Jillybean (4-1)-Tried hard last time but took the long way around on a sloppy track. Is only 1-41 but faces a very soft bunch and may have met a beatable field.

Race 13 (10:24 PM EST)

4-Sunburnt (6/5)-Got caught in the late going on a sloppy track. Has the gate speed to get the top and not look back. Will offer a tiny price and should be included but it feels like this won't be easy.
5-A Girl That Twirls (5/2)-Was battling Open company and formed slipped in December. Dropped a couple of times and finally took a picture. Upswing might continue, Davis Jr could land in the pocket behind the chalk and trip out.

Race 14 (10:46 PM EST)

1-De Havilland (7/2)-Drops in for a tag, Merriman grabs the lines and draws the rail. Should get a cozy trip and could take a picture at a small price.
2-Jacana (4-1)-Has an 0-14 record on a wet track and the weather looks to be favorable tonight. The last 4 starts have been on an off-track, looking for Billy Davis to be racing near the top of the stack.
6-Carmen N The Devil (9/2)-Beat this kind in last and has been super sharp. Went off as an odds-on choice in last and should offer a better return here.
